Job Purpose:
The South Carolina Department of Education is seeking a Cybersecurity Solutions Engineer to support school districts in implementing cybersecurity policies and supporting technologies. This dynamic position serves as one of the primary liaisons with school districts supporting cybersecurity program implementation and monitoring via processes and tools. This role offers the opportunity to work with a spectrum of cybersecurity postures across the K12 environment and support the development and implementation of good cyber hygiene through both technical and procedural changes.
Responsibilities:

Provide Strategic Leadership: Lead the implementation and evolution of the SAFE K12 initiative by aiding schools and districts in implementing cybersecurity initiatives. Serve as primary technical expert in selection for SAFE K-12 initiatives

Develop and Implement Cybersecurity Strategy and Solutions: Implement, monitor a comprehensive strategy that prioritizes K12 entities’ cybersecurity posture, as well as technical and fiscal feasibility at both the state and individual school or district levels. Provide best practices and technical support to schools and districts in support of SAFE K-12 solutions. Research and evaluate potential solutions for SAFE K-12 constituents.

Collaborate with Stakeholders: Work closely with Agency executives, divisions, school districts, and design teams to understand functional needs, implementing innovative cybersecurity solutions. Work with industry partners and other working groups to tailor and optimize cybersecurity offerings to schools and districts.

Mentor Technical Staff: Mentor cybersecurity implementers in K-12 providers, fostering a collaborative and high-performing cybersecurity environment, and provide guidance and development opportunities to the cybersecurity workforce supporting SAFE K-12.
This position is located in the Office of Information Technology.
A bachelor's degree in information technology systems, computer science, or a related field and experience in the information technology field to include experience in a security-focused role. Relevant experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis.

Five (5) years of experience in an Information Security role with at least two (2) years in a solutions architecture and implementation role.

Strong experience with designing, implementing, testing, and monitoring information security solutions and documentation across all areas of IT.

Experience with performing security toll requirements, design, and implementation across an organization and with multiple solution vendors.

Experience working with multiple information security and compliance frameworks simultaneously.

Experience with policy, process, and procedure management and other governance functions.

Strong communication and presentation skills to audiences of all skill and organizational levels.

Experience in determining requirements, procuring, and monitoring tools and support contracts across multiple organizations.

Coordinate teams of various sizes and composition across organizations to meet common security and financial goals.

Familiarity with South Carolina state and local government laws, regulations and processes.

Advanced information security certifications (e.g. CISSP, CISM, etc.) are desired.

Strong organizational skills, including an ability to manage multiple priorities with competing demands for resources.

Commitment to continually building on existing knowledge and skills to be up to date on the latest technology and analysis innovations.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies. Ability to foster a cooperative work environment while demonstrating sound judgement and making timely, effective decisions.
