K-12 Tutor

Position Overview:

We are seeking several part-time tutors to provide one-on-one tutoring for K-12 students within the Oakland area. Tutoring sessions will vary between students and may be held in-person at their homes or online. Hours are based on need and staff skills. The ideal candidate will have a strong educational background and experience working with students in a tutoring or teaching capacity and be well-rounded in all subject areas.

Responsibilities:

• Provide one-on-one tutoring for students in elementary, middle or high school.
• Develop personalized lesson plans tailored to each student's learning needs and goals.
• Create engaging and interactive activities to reinforce concepts.
• Assess student progress and adjust teaching methods accordingly to ensure comprehension and academic growth.
• Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues regarding student progress and any concerns.
• Utilize a variety of instructional materials and resources to enhance learning experiences.
• Keep accurate records of tutoring sessions and student achievements.
• Assist in tracking data for students and the overall program.

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Education, English, Child Development or related field (preferred)
• Previous experience working with K-12 students in a tutoring or teaching capacity.
• Strong knowledge of elementary ELA and Math curriculum and instructional strategies.
• Bilingual in English and Spanish (preferred but not required).
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Patience, empathy, and a passion for helping students succeed.
• Ability to adapt teaching methods to meet the individual needs of each student.
• Background check and TB test will be required.

Schedule/Availability:

• It is preferable for staff to have open availability during the hours of 2pm-6:30pm. However, tutoring sessions are appointment based and depend on the students' requested schedule.
• Tutoring sessions may be in-person or online. Location is subject to parent preferences and can vary. Tutors will be assigned students based on availability and skill set.

Pay: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour
