The Special Education Teacher is responsible for managing a caseload of students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and 504 Plans. This role includes delivering the services outlined in each student’s plan, ensuring compliance with all legal and procedural requirements, and supporting students’ academic, social-emotional, and developmental progress.
ResponsibilitiesProvide direct and indirect instructional support to students, as specified in their IEPs and 504 Plans, within a positive and inclusive learning environment.
Establish clear learning objectives for all lessons and communicate them effectively to students.
Implement specialized instructional strategies to enhance students’ sensory-motor, language, cognitive, and memory development.
Teach academic content using a variety of techniques, including phonetics, multi-sensory instruction, and repetition, to meet diverse learning needs and interests.
Establish and uphold classroom expectations aligned with the school-wide behavior plan to maintain an environment conducive to learning for all students.
Maintain accurate student service logs, lesson plans, and data collection in accordance with district policies, administrative regulations, and state/federal requirements.
Attend and participate in IEP meetings for students on your caseload.
Complete quarterly progress reports for all students you service.
Serve as the primary point of contact (“case manager”) for families and staff regarding students on your caseload.
Collaborate with parents, administrators, specialists, and other school personnel to develop and refine individualized education programs that support academic, physical, and social-emotional growth.
Participate as a member of the multidisciplinary team and attend weekly team meetings with general education teachers.
Assist in the preparation and administration of standardized assessments.
Maintain professional competence through ongoing participation in staff development, curriculum planning sessions, and other professional learning opportunities.
Perform related duties as assigned, such as afternoon duty or clerical tasks (e.g., shredding).
Special Education background/knowledge required.
SEI Endorsement required.
