Title:
Kitchen Manager


Reports to:
Food Service Director


Job Objective:
Assists the food service director in day to day food service operations. Keeps stakeholders informed about emerging issues. This job description is in ADDITION to the employee’s normal role as either Cook or Head Cook


Minimum
· High school diploma or GED. Post-secondary training in institutional food service or closely related

Qualifications: field is desirable. Must maintain a Level 2 ServSafe Credential.

  • Meets all mandated health requirements (e.g., a negative tuberculosis test, etc.).
  • A record free of criminal violations that would prohibit public school employment.
  • Complies with drug-free workplace rules and board policies.
  • Willing to keep current with technology and other workplace innovations that support job functions.
  • Multi-school or closely related food service experience.
  • Successful completion of a board-approved sanitation/food safety course.
  • Ability to interpret and comply with nutrition, health, and safety regulations.
  • Bookkeeping skills and the ability to compute mathematical data accurately.
  • Meets all prerequisite qualifications to be bonded.

  • Works as a liaison between the food service director and head cooks to ensure food service operations function. Addresses issues that arise in the absence of the food service manager.
  • Uses problem-solving to tactfully address concerns. Upholds board policies and follows administrative procedures. Promotes a professional image of the school district.
  • Maintains open and effective communications. Promotes the district’s mission, philosophy, and vision. Serves as an information resource and liaison to stakeholders.
  • Provides staff leadership and consensus development. Helps resolve problems.
  • Helps to implement staffing decisions to ensure the equitable distribution of workloads.
  • Promotes professionalism. Helps to ensure food service staff follow procedures to effectively accomplish assigned duties.
  • Helps to ensure compliance with all food preparation regulations (e.g., hazard analysis critical control points, sanitation procedures, etc.).
  • Ensures in the absence of the food service director that standardized recipes are followed to maintain quality control. Helps to address the needs of students with dietary restrictions.
  • Helps staff as needed to meet established schedules. Assists in planning for substitute menu items when demand exceeds supply.
  • Respects personal privacy. Maintains the confidentiality of privileged information.
  • Processes applications and records for free and reduced-cost lunch programs.
  • Manages the accurate and timely completion of, records, and inventories.
  • Maintains an accurate inventory of all food, supplies, and equipment.
  • Maintains vendor files. Obtains price quotes. Prepares comparative data (e.g., quality, new products, warranties, discounts, availability for delivery, etc.). Oversees the ordering of food products and supplies.
  • Anticipates and prepares for fire, health, and safety inspections. Teaches staff how to operate fire and safety equipment. Promptly documents all injuries that require medical attention.
  • Identifies maintenance needs and prepares work orders.
  • Assists with the coordination of special district events (e.g., banquets, etc.).
  • Develops kitchen security procedures. Assists rental groups as directed. Ensures that the kitchen and storage areas are secured at the end of the workday.
  • Reports discipline problems, vandalism, graffiti, and other related concerns.
  • Takes precautions to ensure safety. Monitors situations that may indicate a problem. Works with staff to manage or eliminate risk factors.
  • Reports suspected child abuse and/or neglect to civil authorities as required by law.
