Lab and Simulation Assistant

JOB SUMMARY

This position provides vital support to nursing students and faculty within the skills and simulation laboratory setting. The individual in this role is responsible for preparing and maintaining a safe, organized, and fully functional lab environment, ensuring that equipment is ready and instructional activities run smoothly. In addition, this role provides assistance during clinical experiences as assigned, contributing to a positive and supportive learning environment.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

Reports to: Lab Manager and Chief Nurse Administrator

Supervisory Responsibility: N/A

Indirect Supervisory Responsibility: N/A

ESSENTIAL DUTIES - May include, but is not limited to the following:

  • Facilitate simulation and skills lab operations by ensuring a clean, organized, and safe environment.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot simulation equipment, including human patient simulators, electronic simulation devices, task trainers, and audiovisual recording systems.
  • Prepare, set up, and tear down all ADN simulation and skills lab activities, ensuring all equipment and resources are functional and ready for use.
  • Serve as a resource for students and faculty during simulations and skills teaching labs, answering questions about equipment and learning resources.
  • Manage and operate simulation technology, including high-fidelity mannequins and audiovisual systems
  • Maintain accurate supply inventory and order supplies as needed under the direction of the SIM Lab Manager.
  • Monitor student skills practice hours and send required reports to the SIM Lab Manager as directed.

ADDITIONAL/NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES

All remaining duties are considered "nonessential" within the context of the ADA, which means that the function could be reassigned to another employee in order to allow a disabled individual to hold the position. Alternatively, the manager could try to provide a reasonable accommodation so that the disabled individual could perform the function.

EDUCATION

Required Education:

Bachelor's degree in Nursing

Preferred Education:

Master's degree in Nursing

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS

Required: Active State of Florida RN license

EXPERIENCE

Required:

Successful professional experience of at least two (2) years in bedside nursing.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Required:

  • Knowledge of nursing procedures and processes
  • Personal commitment to teach in a Christian university and be in agreement with the mission of Southeastern University

Preferred:

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Physical Requirements:

  • Able to lift a minimum of 25 pounds.
  • Able to perform a variety of physical tasks including lifting, bending, stooping, squatting, stair climbing, and walking between buildings.

Yes, local travel to clinical sites

Schedule:

Evenings and Weekends, some days may be required based on the lab and simulation schedule.

TRAINING

All new hires and employees transferring into a new position will have a 90-day probationary period within which to learn the functions of the job and to be evaluated. Following the probationary period, the employee can transition to regular status, have the probationary period extended in order to receive more training, or employment can be terminated. Required compliance training is as follows:

  • OJT
  • Lab Safety

SAFETY

  • Work-related injuries must be immediately reported to Security and Human Resources. When life or limb are at risk, please dial 911. Supervisors and employees should ensure that injury/accident reports are submitted to the Office of Human Resources within 24 hours of the incident.
  • Emergency Employees report for or must remain at work in emergency situations. Dismissal or closure announcements do not apply to this position, unless instructed otherwise by your direct supervisor or a member of the Leadership Team.

SCREENING

All full-time positions at SEU are deemed security-sensitive and require background checks. Employees required to drive their own personal vehicle, a rental car or an SEU vehicle in performance of their duties must pass an MVR records check and meet the requirements of the University’s insurance carrier in order to meet the requirements of the position.
