Laboratory Assistant – Microbiology (Phlebotomy Certified)

Under the guidance and supervision of a Laboratory Technologist and/or Technician, assists in the technical processing of patient specimens. Works in the Microbiology Department performing specimen set-ups and quality control (QC) procedures while also supporting specimen collection through phlebotomy.

Responsibilities:

• Assist with the technical processing and preparation of patient specimens

• Perform specimen set-ups for microbiology testing

• Conduct and document quality control (QC) procedures as required

• Monitor and record temperatures of laboratory refrigerators and incubators

• Maintain accurate documentation and follow laboratory protocols

• Ensure compliance with laboratory safety and infection control standards

• Support laboratory staff in maintaining an organized and efficient work environment

• Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection as needed (phlebotomy duties)

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent required

• Basic knowledge of laboratory technical procedures in the microbiology department preferred

• Ability to follow detailed instructions and laboratory protocols

• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills

• Ability to work effectively as part of a laboratory team

• Phlebotomy certification required
