What You Will Do:
The Lab Assistant supports the daily operations of the laboratory by collecting, processing, transporting, and preparing specimens for analysis and testing. This position ensures timely and accurate handling of biological specimens and provides assistance to laboratory technicians and medical staff while maintaining compliance with all safety, quality, and confidentiality standards.
1. Maintain regular and STAT specimen pick-up schedules between clinic floors and departments.
2. Process, separate, and transport biological specimens including serum, plasma, stool, sputum, urine, blood, and other body fluids.
3. Accession specimens in Orchard using the Release Stored Orders (RSO) function.
4. Prepare and process specimens for reference laboratories, ensuring accuracy and appropriate packaging.
5. Notify Medical Laboratory Technicians of any changes in test orders and process add-on test requests.
6. Complete and document add-on test requests accurately.
7. Perform CLIA-waived testing as authorized, including but not limited to: Urine pregnancy tests, COVID-19/Influenza kits, Rapid Strep kits, Mononucleosis (Whole Blood), IFOB kits, BNP (Whole Blood).
8. Maintain cleanliness and organization of the laboratory and work areas; restock supplies as needed.
9. Notify Laboratory Supervisor of supply needs, including reference lab materials.
10. Assist laboratory technicians and other staff as needed.
11. Communicate effectively and professionally with patients, guests, physicians, and clinic staff.
12. Maintain all required licenses and certifications.
13. Maintain punctual and regular attendance.
14. Safeguard confidentiality of company, patient, and employee information in accordance with HIPAA and clinic policies.
15. Perform other job-related duties as assigned by management.
What You Will Need:
Minimum Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required.

Previous experience in a healthcare or laboratory setting preferred. Knowledge and practice of universal precautions preferred.
