POSITION SUMMARY:
The Lab Coordinator for Biology is a professional staff person who works for the Biology Department (Biology) to support the biology program in two primary ways: (1) instruct up to three biology lab courses per semester and (2) perform lab prep duties as delineated below. The Lab Coordinator oversees the program’s budget and will purchase and prepare materials associated with student biology laboratories and faculty-supervised research. The Lab Coordinator collaborates with the biology lab manager to ensure that all tasks are completed. The Lab Coordinator will hire, instruct, supervise and oversee work-study students. This individual will maintain a clean, safe and organized laboratory environment that includes the inventory management of glassware, chemical stocks, and SDS for biology. Additional responsibilities include assistance in maintaining laboratory instrumentation, the animal room, computer hardware/software, and audiovisual collections. The Lab Coordinator will oversee the storage of all chemicals and the collection and disposal of chemical, biological, and biohazard waste for Biology and the University. This individual will work with the Chemical Hygiene Officer to ensure compliance with Federal and State regulations for the Biology Department. This individual will perform other duties as assigned by the Chair of Biology and the Biology Lab Manager.
