Khalifa University and the College of Computing and Mathematical Sciences seek a dynamic and dedicated individual for the position of Senior Lab Engineer in the Computer and Information Engineering (CIE) Department with specialization in Robotics and AI


Position Overview :

As a Lab Engineer, you will collaborate with CIE Department faculty to support undergraduate Robotics labs in areas such as:

  • Software control and motion planning for mobile and manipulator robots
  • Autonomous navigation using sensor fusion (LIDAR, IMU, camera)
  • Robot sensing and SLAM
  • Robotic kinematics, dynamics, and control theory
  • Manipulation and grasping techniques
  • Machine learning and AI in robotics
  • Design, simulation, and testing of robotic systems


Job Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate with CIE Department faculty involved in the course and organize the lab teaching schedule
  • Instruct assigned lab courses, oversee students’ lab activities, and assess student work
  • Prepare or update the lab manual in accordance with the course curriculum
  • Manage the inventory of laboratory equipment and consumables, as well as lab software.
  • Ensure that all laboratory activities comply with applicable EHS regulations, policies, and guidelines.
  • Provide laboratory health and safety inductions for users, and conduct routine maintenance and calibration of equipment to maintain accuracy and efficiency in experimental results.
  • Support academic and research initiatives of the department and participate in student-related events.
  • Take part in the ongoing development and modification of undergraduate programs.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors’ degree in Computer Engineering or Mechatronics Engineering, with a strong academic record.
  • At least 2 years of relevant experience, including proficiency in:
  • Programming languages: C++, Python
  • ROS2 and simulation tools such as Gazebo, RViz, and visualization pipelines
  • Integration of robotic sensors: IMUs, LIDAR, cameras, encoders
  • Signal processing and real-time control for robotic systems
  • Embedded platforms (e.g., Arduino, STM32, Raspberry Pi, NVIDIA Jetson)
  • Quanser platforms and QUARC real-time control software
  • Experience with robotic modelling and control tools such (MATLAB/Simulink)
