Lab Technician

Company Description: John W. Stone Oil Distributor, LLC is the local leader in dockside, mid-streaming, and offshore fueling along the Mississippi River, from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to Houston, Texas, and into the Gulf of Mexico.

Position: Lab Technician

Reports To: Production Manager

Worksite: The facility is in Houston, Texas (Houston Ship Channel Area). The company’s headquarters is in Gretna, Louisiana. (The greater New Orleans area).

Work Schedule:8:00am to 5:00pm, Monday-Friday. Some overtime may be required including weekends

Essential Duties:

• Testing of all incoming raw materials and finished products; approval or rejecting of samples based on test specifications in a timely manner
• Cleaning of instruments and glassware
• Quality assurance checks alongside the production team
• Research and development with formulas via hand blends and correctional calculations
• Quality control analysis on a daily and monthly basis
• Thorough recordkeeping of data
• Replenishes lab chemicals and supplies daily; inventory management
• Sampling of raw materials and finished products as needed
• Prints labels for production use
• Ability to identify hazardous chemicals/products and general haz-class handling and storage knowledge
• Troubleshooting, calibrating, and maintaining instruments
• Ability to calculate and predict corrections on blend formulations
• Other duties that may be requested by Director, Supervisor or Executive Management as needed.
• Crosstrain for the performance of other duties at company's facility

Minimum Qualifications:

• Must be proficient with Microsoft Office
• Experience in technical writing or communication practices in a laboratory setting
• Hands on experience with analytical chemistry testing
• Associates degree or higher related to science, or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Ability to perform mathematical computations and solve practical problems daily
