JOB SUMMARY:


The Laboratory Technician position is part of the Pulse Quality & Nutritional Breeding Program. The role provides high-throughput nutritional analysis of farm-derived samples using GC/MS, HPLC, ICP-OES, and FTIR to generate data supporting breeding advancement and future variety release decisions. This position is located on the main campus of Clemson University and requires on-site work. Other duties as assigned.

JOB DUTIES:


85% - Essential - Receive and process field-derived samples in support of research activities. Perform wet chemistry extraction procedures in accordance with established laboratory protocols. Operate laboratory instrumentation to analyze samples and generate data. Maintain laboratory equipment through routine cleaning, calibration, and preventative maintenance. Adhere to laboratory safety procedures and regulatory compliance standards.

10% - Essential - Accurately record and maintain organized laboratory records of experimental results. Report nutritional data derived from laboratory instrumentation in a clear and structured format. Compile and prepare data summaries for review by the Principal Investigator. Utilize Microsoft Excel to organize, analyze, and present data sets. Interact professionally with research personnel to clarify data reporting needs and ensure timely communication of results. Follow established data management and backup procedures to ensure data integrity and retention compliance.

5% - Essential - Support outreach and extension workshops hosted by the Pulse Quality & Nutritional Breeding Program by assisting with laboratory demonstrations and engaging with local high school students in educational activities aligned with Clemson University's land-grants mission.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:


Education - Associate's Degree or equivalent technical training in electronics technology, biology or the natural sciences and work experience in a laboratory environment; or a high school diploma and journey-level work experience in a laboratory environment.
Work Experience - 1+ years laboratory work

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:


Education - Bachelor's Degree - Biology, chemistry, biochemistry, plant science, or related majors.
Licenses - Drivers License Class D normal < 26,000

Work Experience - 2+ years GC/MS work, HPLC work, and FTIR work

RESPONSIBILITIES

COMPENSATION INFORMATION


Anticipated Hourly Rate: $30.00


Salary is dependent upon several factors including, but not limited to, a candidate's previous experience, knowledge, skills and performance in accordance with Clemson's compensation guidelines.


ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL LEVEL


Normal Operations

Required to follow emergency facility closure directives, and not normally expected work on-site during emergency situations.
