Key Responsibilities:
- AOC Billing:
- Process and review AOC (Accounts of Care) billing codes for laboratory services rendered.
- Prepare and submit billing claims for laboratory tests, ensuring compliance with all relevant billing codes, regulations, and insurance requirements.
- Address and resolve any discrepancies between lab results and billing documentation.
- Communicate with insurance companies and payers regarding billing issues, rejections, and denials.
- Data Entry & Record Keeping:
- Ensure accurate data entry into the laboratory management system and billing software.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and handle all billing-related information in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
- Keep detailed records of lab tests, billing codes, patient information, and payment status.
- Collaboration & Communication:
- Work closely with physicians, nurses, and laboratory personnel to ensure accurate billing for all lab services.
- Serve as a liaison between the laboratory and billing departments to ensure timely processing of claims.
- Assist with audits and prepare documentation for internal or external reviews related to lab testing and billing.
Qualifications:
- Education:
- Associate’s degree in Laboratory Technology, Medical Laboratory Science, or related field.
- Certification as a Medical Lab Technician (MLT) or similar preferred.
- Experience:
- 2+ years of experience working in a clinical laboratory environment with experience in laboratory testing and billing.
- Experience in AOC billing and knowledge of insurance coding and billing practices.
- Skills & Abilities:
- Strong knowledge of laboratory procedures, test equipment, and diagnostic tools.
- Proficient in medical billing software and electronic health records (EHR) systems.
- In-depth understanding of ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems for laboratory services.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to interact with healthcare professionals and insurance providers.
- Certifications:
- Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or Clinical Laboratory Technician (CLT) certification preferred.
