Lab Technician I

Eaton’s GEIS division is currently seeking a Lab Technician I.

The expected annual salary range for this role is $47000 - $69000 a year.

What you’ll do:

The Engineering Technician I supports engineering and quality initiatives by assisting with the setup and execution of mechanical and subsystem tests, collecting and documenting test data, and maintaining laboratory equipment and processes. This position works closely with engineers and other technicians to validate product performance, support new product introductions (NPI), and contribute to continuous improvement efforts within a hands on laboratory environment.

Job Scope
  • Project vs. Daily Support: ~75% project work / 25% daily lab duties
  • Support engineering initiatives across NPI, Sustaining, VA/VE, and Quality projects
  • Execute defined mechanical and functional tests
  • Accurately collect, document, and review test data
  • Collaborate with cross functional engineering and quality teams

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

Test Execution & Lab Support
  • Read, follow, and clarify test procedures to complete testing as required
  • Set up and conduct basic mechanical and subsystem tests using existing schematics and instructions
  • Ensure test equipment and instrumentation are properly calibrated prior to use
  • Follow all workflow checklists, quality documentation, and safety requirements
  • Assist in maintaining lab equipment, organization, and 5S standards

Data Collection & Documentation
  • Collect accurate test data and complete required log sheets and reports
  • Review collected data using appropriate viewing tools prior to presenting results to engineering
  • Ensure completeness and accuracy of test documentation and records

Engineering & Project Support
  • Support engineering problem solving efforts by executing laid out test plans
  • Participate in project reviews, technical discussions, and problem solving teams
  • Contribute to at least one VA/VE or quality improvement initiative
  • Support NPI validation efforts for each product launch cycle

Continuous Improvement & Safety
  • Follow standard operating procedures for testing and documentation
  • Contribute to lessons learned and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Follow all safety procedures and actively support safety elements

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma/GED from an accredited institution
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a lab or manufacturing environment
  • No relocation is being provided for this role. Candidates must reside within a 50 miles of Highland, IL be considered. Active-duty military members are exempt from this geographical area limitation.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Exposure to SAP or similar Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems (e.g., inventory management, work orders, or data entry modules)

Skills:

  • Ability to complete basic test setup assemblies from well defined schematics
  • Basic understanding of component operation and fundamental theory
  • Basic understanding of component and subsystem interactions
  • Strong aptitude for hands on, practical applications
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office tools
  • Ability to perform precise manual tasks in a lab environment
  • Willingness to learn technical processes, procedures, and equipment
