Mastagni Holstedt, A.P.C. is actively seeking a qualified attorney to join its growing Labor and Employment and Criminal Defense practice in Sacramento. The ideal candidate will have at minimum two (2) years of relevant legal experience. Experience in criminal law, employment, wage and hour, and/or public agency law highly preferred. Litigation experience, preferably plaintiff side on employment cases and defendant on criminal matters highly preferred. Administrative hearing experience is a plus.

Essential Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.)
  • Licensed by and in good standing with the California bar.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, analytical skills, and a commitment to quality client service.
  • Working knowledge of California and federal statutes. Local labor and employment laws and regulations knowledge is a high plus.
  • Two (2) years’ experience practicing as an attorney. Previous litigation experience, preferably related to plaintiff-side employment law, is a high plus.
  • Ability to review labor agreements and conduct legal research.
  • Interest and aptitude to represent clients in contested forums.
  • Ability to travel as case assignment warrants.

What You’ll Do:

  • Provide comprehensive representation to clients/employees and/or unions in employment matters and/or criminal defense matters, including but not limited to: representation in administrative discipline cases, dismissals, grievance hearings, unfair labor practice charges, State Personnel Board appeals, arbitrations/mediations, and hearings and trials as needed. Opportunities to represent clients in wage and hour disputes.
  • Provide legal advice and analysis on legal rights and defenses to clients on a variety of labor and employment/criminal issues in a timely manner.
  • Conduct legal research and factual investigation to prepare legal documents and develop strategies.
  • Draft legal documents/pleadings, take and defend depositions or other investigatory interviews, draft and respond to discovery and demand letters, negotiate settlement agreements, arbitration and/or trial preparation, and advise related to collective bargaining negotiations and agreements.
  • Independently manage caseload and stay abreast of deadlines.
  • Attend MCLE in-house trainings and keep up-to-date with the latest legal developments affecting employment law.
  • Establish and maintain relationships and credibility with association clients.
  • May attend monthly board meetings or other client events. Participation in a rotational 24/7 on-call schedule related to critical incidents.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $115,000.00 - $160,000.00 per year
