Labor Relations Consultant

Overview:

Our client, a Medical Center facility under the aegis of a California Public Ivy university and one of largest health delivery systems in California, seeks accomplished Labor Relations Consultant.

*** Duration: 26-week contract w/ possibility of extension

Note:

  • Hybrid Role; 4 days a week onsite; 1 day remote.

Description:

  • The Labor Relations Representative is responsible for establishing and maintaining effective labor-management relations across the organization. This role provides expert guidance on labor relations, employment law, and employee relations matters while ensuring compliance with applicable policies and regulations.
  • Key responsibilities include advising management on performance management, corrective actions, and labor relations strategies; interpreting and administering collective bargaining agreements; and supporting grievance resolution processes. The role actively participates in and leads labor negotiations, represents the organization in arbitration and dispute proceedings, and negotiates binding agreements with union representatives.
  • Additionally, the position conducts research and analysis on labor-related issues, develops recommendations for leadership, and collaborates with cross-functional stakeholders to mitigate risk and ensure compliance. The incumbent also investigates employee and union complaints, supports dispute resolution, and promotes proactive practices to minimize grievances and legal exposure.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 4+ years of experience in labor relations or employee relations.
  • Strong knowledge of labor and employment laws, policies, and regulations.
  • Demonstrated experience in labor negotiations and collective bargaining.
  • Ability to analyze complex issues and develop effective solutions.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Proven ability to handle sensitive or high-conflict situations professionally.
  • Experience interpreting and applying labor agreements and organizational policies.

Preferred Skills (Nice to Have):

  • Experience in public sector or higher education environments.
  • Knowledge of organizational policies and procedures.
  • Experience representing organizations in arbitration or dispute resolution forums.
  • Advanced advocacy and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to lead training sessions on labor relations topics.
