Academic Human Resources Partner

We are seeking a seasoned Human Resources professional with a strong background in Academic Personnel and Higher Education environments. As an Academic HR Representative, you will manage the full lifecycle of employee relations for a designated set of client departments. This role requires an experienced professional who can navigate complex academic policies, labor contracts, and unit-specific practices to resolve personnel issues in imaginative and practical ways.


Location: 100% Remote (Must reside in California)

Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM PST

Status: 26-Week Contract (Approx. 6 months) with potential for extension


Key Responsibilities

  • Full Employee Lifecycle Management: Lead and coordinate the lifecycle of academic personnel, including recruitment, appointment, advancement, onboarding, and offboarding.
  • Policy & Labor Relations: Administer and interpret academic personnel policies, labor contracts, and statutes. Manage issues governing represented academic personnel with an emphasis on equity and labor relations.
  • Compensation & Benefits: Manage salary administration, welfare programs, and payroll coordination for diverse academic titles.
  • Operational Support: Support visa procurement processes, training and development initiatives, and academic misconduct investigations.
  • Liaison Services: Act as the primary point of contact for department heads and faculty, providing expert guidance on complex HR and academic personnel matters.


Required Qualifications

  • Experience: 3+ years of HR Generalist experience, specifically managing the full employee lifecycle (onboarding, payroll, employee relations, offboarding).
  • Academic Background: Previous experience working within a University or Academic Healthcare system is strictly required.
  • Regional Requirement: Must currently reside in the state of California .
  • Technical Proficiency: Strong intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office (Excel/Word). Experience with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) or specialized Academic Personnel systems is preferred.
  • Scope of Knowledge: Proven ability to apply HR theory to practice, analyze problems of diverse scope, and determine independent solutions.


Preferred Skills

  • In-depth understanding of University-wide academic practices and policies.
  • Experience with represented (union) environments and labor contract administration.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills for professional correspondence and policy interpretation.
