Laboratory Assistant

JOB SUMMARY

Neurocode is at the forefront of neurology testing, specializing in advanced diagnostics for neurological disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease and rare autoimmune disorders. We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Laboratory Assistant to support our mission by performing and coordinating various tasks within our laboratory.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

Hours are Monday – Friday, 9:00AM to 5:30PM.

· Specimen Management: Accession, label, and process incoming specimens from Neurocode clients with accuracy and efficiency.

· Processing and Handling: Ensure all aspects of specimen processing, handling, and results for both routine and esoteric tests referred to external laboratories are conducted accurately and promptly.

· Specimen Requirements: Research specimen requirements for reference labs and coordinate complex transportation arrangements when necessary.

· Requisition and Specimen Processing: Process all laboratory test requisitions and specimens swiftly and appropriately, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.

· Policy Adherence: Consult relevant policy and procedure manuals and communicate with reference labs to ensure proper specimen handling and requirements are met.

· Test Processing: Under the supervision of a medical technologist, perform test processing tasks, which may include:

o Logging and distributing patient test specimens to respective test areas.

o Cataloguing completed samples into long-term storage for efficient retrieval.

o Contacting patients and/or providers to clarify ambiguous orders or incomplete requisitions.

o Maintaining accurate records and compiling weekly reports for the billing team.

· Equipment Maintenance: Inform the Lab Supervisor of any lab equipment malfunctions or issues.

· Prioritization: Determine and adjust priorities effectively when organizing daily tasks based on the pending workload.

· Customer Support: Provide customer support for incoming calls to the laboratory, addressing inquiries and providing assistance as needed.

· Team Support: Assist other laboratory personnel as needed and perform tasks assigned by laboratory leadership.

EDUCATION

· High School Diploma or equivalent required; college degree is a plus.

EXPERIENCE

· Previous experience in a laboratory setting is preferred but not required. On-the-job training will be provided.

· This position works in a demanding, fast-paced office and lab environment with the need to meet daily workload requirements. Incumbent may be exposed to chemicals and requires the use of personal protection equipment and universal precautions.

· This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers/keyboards/mice, printers, phones, mobile devices, photocopiers, filing cabinets, fax machines, etc. The noise level in the office work environment varies from moderate to loud.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

· Exerting up to 30 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.

· While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear; sit; stand; walk; use hands to handle or feel; grasp and/or reach with hands and arms; repetitive movements of the wrists, hands and/or fingers.

· Specific vision abilities required by this job include close visual acuity and ability to adjust focus to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; reading reports, various forms charts or records, transcribing; viewing computer monitor(s); extensive reading.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $19.17 - $25.00 per hour
