The Laboratory Assistant II is responsible for aiding the laboratory scientist, technologist or technician with pre- and post-analytic duties in the testing departments. The Laboratory Assistant II is responsible for preparing samples for transport to the appropriate reference laboratory and completing Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendment (CLIA)-waived testing.
- Assists in testing departments by performing pre- and post-analytic processes under the supervision of a laboratory scientist, technologist or technician
- Prepares samples for laboratory testing, such as inoculating plates, specimen slide preparation and centrifuging specimens
- Performs certain diagnostic/serological testing for interpretation and/or therapeutic intervention by/or at the request of a licensed practitioner and under the supervision of a MT, MLS, or MLT
- Loads and removes samples onto certain analyzers and other instrumentation per laboratory department protocol Stocks supplies, monitors temperatures, and assists with other duties as assigned by a supervisor
- Complies with all laboratory policies and regulations related to safety, cleanliness and infection control
- Prepares samples to be shipped to a reference laboratory, following all specimen transport regulations; and completes CLIA-waived laboratory testing
- Ensures correct sample type, labeling, and transport criteria for reference lab samples
- Prepares samples for transport according to regulations; consulting with technicians/technologists concerning sample requirements when needed
- Scans reported results into Electronic Health Record (EHR) upon receipt of results from reference laboratory
- Responsible for distribution of reports and maintaining of laboratory documents and records
- Completes CLIA-waived laboratory testing and enters results into EHR under the supervision of a laboratory technician / technologist
- Receives, processes, and delivers samples to analytical areas according to procedures and policy
- Monitors delivery systems and front desk for samples received
- Verifies, enters and ensures proper patient identification information on specimen labels
- Sorts and delivers laboratory specimens to specialized laboratory areas
- Prioritizes samples according to order status (STAT, ASAP, etc.) priority, and required turn-around-times
Education:
- Associate's Degree in Science or health science field
Experience:
- 2 years of Related laboratory experience. Advanced education may substitute for the experience requirement.
