Laboratory Assistant (Part Time) - Department of Biological Sciences

JOB SUMMARY:


Participate in a research program in an academic research laboratory. Duties include performing experiments, interpreting data, troubleshooting and participating in laboratory discussions. Duties will also include basic laboratory maintenance activities. Perform other duties as assigned.

JOB DUTIES:


65% - Essential - To participate in laboratory research projects. This includes performing experiments, collecting and curating accurate data suitable for inclusion in peer-reviewed journal submissions, conference proceedings, or grant submissions. The candidate will also attend regular research meetings with the supervisor to discuss experiments and progress on projects.

25% - Essential - To participate in general laboratory maintenance activities including but not limited to managing inventory, ordering supplies, testing safety showers and eye wash stations, sterilizing laboratory consumables, making media and buffers, and disposing biohazardous waste

10% - Essential - Assist with Publications/Presentations: To assist with the submission of peer-reviewed journal articles, conference proceedings, and grant proposals. This will be limited to the development of figures summarizing experimental data and providing editorial commentary on laboratory writing projects.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:


Education - A high school diploma and work experience in a related health care setting or in a clinical or research laboratory setting; or 12 semester hours of academic training in biology and/or chemistry; or registration as a Certified Laboratory Assistant by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists or an equivalent registry; or successful completion of a formal program of instruction for laboratory assistants at a hospital or academic institution.

No Supervisory Duties - Not responsible for supervising employees.

No Budget Responsibilities - No fiscal responsibility for the department's budget.

Standard Hours: 15 per week

Approximate dates of this temporary assignment: May 11 - July 31, 2026

COMPENSATION INFORMATION


Anticipated Salary Range: $14.76 - $15.00/hour


Salary is dependent upon several factors including, but not limited to, a candidate's previous experience, knowledge, skills and performance in accordance with Clemson's compensation guidelines.


ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL LEVEL


Normal Operations

Required to follow emergency facility closure directives, and not normally expected work on-site during emergency situations.
