This position works with students and researchers in laboratories in the Mines and Metallurgy building, assisting in maintaining safe operations in all labs, building management and having primary responsibility for the geomechanics lab which conducts testing for mining engineering projects across the University, the State of Arizona, and international mining projects. The Geomechanics laboratory has a full suite of engineering test equipment for rock, soil, and tailings. These include load frames, triaxial cells, and small and large-scale direct shears. Additionally, there is a full suite of testing equipment for rock mass characterization for underground construction. Sample preparation equipment includes water jet drilling and jet-assisted cutting. The Geomechanics lab also supports the San Xavier Mining Laboratory geomechanical monitoring and instrumentation program.
This position will be hired at a 0.75 FTE with the possibility of increasing to 1.0 FTE in the future.
