Laboratory Technician

Summary:

The EVOIA Laboratory Technician will aid the company’s Research and Development team with the analysis of company products on the growth and development of target crops. The main duties include setting up growth trials, plant evaluations and end point tissue harvest with data collection. Additional responsibilities may include preparing and shipping tissue samples for external analysis and basic laboratory work such as preparing tissue samples under the direction of laboratory scientists, performing pH, ion electrode and UV-VIS analysis. Depending on training and experience, additional duties may be assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

· Assist research scientists with set up and data collection for plant trials, including germination, establishment and extended grow out

· Monitor experiments to ensure adequate nutrition and water per established protocols

· Assist with take down and clean up following trials

· Collect plant tissue samples for further analysis

· Maintain good laboratory hygiene

· Maintain detailed experimental records in both laboratory notebooks as well as online data repository

· Report any unsafe conditions or actions

· Complete accident/near miss reports as required. Participate in accident investigations, as required.

· Effectively collaborate with other EVOIA team members to improve processes, products, safety and/or any other company objective.

· Perform other related duties as assigned.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities may Include

· Under supervision, assist with processing plant tissue and soils samples for evaluation (may include milling, cryo-milling and solvent extractions)

· Support basic laboratory analytical tests including pH measurements, analysis using ion sensitive electrodes, UV-VIS and other methods as qualified

Requirements:

• Required: High school Diploma
• Preferred: Associate Degree in biology, chemistry or related field, or experience in nursery environment.
• Good written and verbal communication skills
• Must be able to work within a team in a fast-paced environment
• Strong organizational skills, including attention to detail
• Ability to manage multiple projects and tasks regularly
• Proficient with Microsoft Office products, especially excel
• Ability to lift minimum of 25 lbs from floor to chest level repeated, with occasional lifts of up to 50 lbs.
• At times, this role will require the employee to work with hazardous materials and or chemicals and wear Personal Protective Equipment, including but not limited to respirators, gloves, work boots and safety glasses
• Applicant must be able to pass a pre-employment background screening

Pay: $21.00 - $26.00 per hour
