Position Summary:
The College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking a creative and hands-on technician to join our Clinical Skills team. The ideal candidate is a problem-solver at heart—someone who thrives on designing, building, and refining practical solutions. This role merges technical craftsmanship with educational support, requiring a unique blend of innovation and physical skill. The primary purpose of this position is to promote and support education of veterinary students in the clinical simulation laboratories. This position performs a wide variety of instructional and managerial duties for the Clinical Skills Program.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Assist Clinical Skills faculty in the instruction and supervision of veterinary students during laboratory sessions in the pre-clinical curriculum (Years 1–3).
Prepare, set up, and conduct clinical skills laboratories, ensuring all materials, models, and specimens are ready for instruction.
Demonstrate clinical procedures and techniques to students and provide constructive, skill-based feedback during practice sessions.
Support the scheduling and logistical coordination of laboratory training sessions, practical examinations, and related academic activities.
Set up and help to administer objective structured clinical skills examinations (OSCEs).
Maintain teaching laboratories, equipment, and storage areas to a high standard of organization, cleanliness, and operational readiness.
Utilize a variety of teaching tools—including simulation models, anatomic specimens (cadavers), and live animals—to train students in clinical skills across principal veterinary species (e.g., dogs, cats, horses, livestock).
Develop, prototype, and fabricate novel teaching models and simulators; maintain and troubleshoot 3-D printing equipment and software.
Oversee the inventory, maintenance, repair, and sterilization of simulation models and related teaching assets.
Facilitate the procurement, receipt, and organization of laboratory equipment, supplies, and consumables.
Cultivate and maintain effective, collaborative working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and external stakeholders in support of the A-State CVM mission.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Experience in designing, prototyping, or fabricating functional simulation models, trainers, or related physical prototypes.
Hands-on aptitude with a range of fabrication techniques (e.g., 3D printing, molding/casting, basic machining, or electronics).
Ability to safely lift, push, and pull items up to 70 lb (32 kg).
Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a vehicle within Arkansas.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite or similar productivity software.
Excellent organizational, communication, and critical-thinking skills.
Capacity to work effectively in a dynamic, collaborative academic environment.

Minimum Qualifications:
An earned high school diploma or equivalent.
Some prior experience in an academic, clinical, or veterinary setting regarding additive manufacturing (3D printing/scanning), working with composites/resins, or welding.
Two years experience handling large or small animals
Preferred Qualification:
Demonstrated portfolio or examples of created medical or veterinary simulation models.
Formal training or significant experience in additive manufacturing (3D printing/scanning), working with composites/resins, or welding.
Foundational knowledge of basic accounting or supply inventory management.
