Laboratory Technician – Level 1
Location: Winston-Salem, NC
Department: Quality Control
Shift: G (M - F, 8a – 4p, OT as required)
Performs dimensional, mechanical, and chemical laboratory testing using specific test equipment per company/customer and industry test requirements, specifications, methods, and standards.

Performs dimensional, mechanical, physical, and chemical testing on various equipment as required by the company’s quality system requirements.

Familiar with and follows processes and procedures specified by the company, ASTM and/or equivalent industry standard test methods.

Prepares and maintains test reports and test result databases

Prepare technical support as required for all product acceptance functions to clarify and ensure compliance with quality requirements.

Initiates Material Review activities for timely disposition of nonconforming material/products. Initiates Corrective/Preventative action as required.

Participates in internal quality audits as required.

Assists in the analysis of inspection and test data for problem resolution and process improvements as required

Participates in continuous improvement teams

Abides by all plant rules and cross-trains in other areas when directed

Ability to manage multiple priorities. Highly detail oriented.

Dimension inspection tools: calipers, micrometers, indicators.

Experience performing tension, compression, and shear tests using strain gauges and universal tensile testing equipment.

Chemical testing, preparing different chemical solutions and different chemical testing such as pH titration.

Computer Skills using Excel metric charts and MS Office

Requires good problem-solving capabilities.

Strong attention to detail.

Strong interpersonal & written communication skills.

Ability to read and interpret written documents such as standard task procedures, work orders, work order instructions, supplementary instructions, manufacturer's and customer's specifications, Material Safety Data Sheets, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Must be able to understand and follow verbal instructions. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers, vendors, and/ or employees of organization.

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages, proportions, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Understanding of health and safety rules/regulations.

Use of Epicor ERP system for quality control

Must pass a Math Test as part of interview process

High school graduate or GED plus one-year related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Minimum two (2) years’ manufacturing experience or one (1) year of composite fabrication experience

Knowledge of composites/textiles and ASTM or equivalent test methods is desirable

Instron experience is a plus

Associates degree with Chemistry coursework is a plus

Atomic Absorption testing and/or Carbon Content Determination experience is a plus
