Job Description for Lactation Counsellor Nurse
Key Responsibilities
- Patient Support: Counsel and provide practical help to mothers facing breastfeeding problems (sore nipples, low supply, latch issues, etc.).
- Education: Teach proper breastfeeding techniques, feeding cues, expression, storage, and nutrition for lactating mothers and families.
- Assessment: Evaluate breastfeeding practices and identify root causes of difficulties.
- Collaboration: Work with doctors, midwives, and other staff to ensure coordinated, mother-friendly care.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records of patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes.
- Promote Standards: Help implement Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI) guidelines.
- Telehealth: Offer virtual support and follow-ups via phone or video.
- Training: Educate other healthcare professionals on breastfeeding best practices.
- Required Skills & Qualifications
- Education: BSc (Nursing), often with specialized lactation certification (e.g., BPNI, IBCLC).
- Experience: Previous experience in maternal/child health or lactation support is preferred.
- Communication: Excellent interpersonal, counselling, and presentation skills.
- Empathy: Sensitivity and ability to offer emotional reassurance.
- Technical: Knowledge of lactation physiology, basic computer skills (Word, Excel).

Pay: ₹25,000.00 - ₹35,000.00 per month
