Job Description for Lactation Counsellor Nurse

Key Responsibilities

  • Patient Support: Counsel and provide practical help to mothers facing breastfeeding problems (sore nipples, low supply, latch issues, etc.).
  • Education: Teach proper breastfeeding techniques, feeding cues, expression, storage, and nutrition for lactating mothers and families.
  • Assessment: Evaluate breastfeeding practices and identify root causes of difficulties.
  • Collaboration: Work with doctors, midwives, and other staff to ensure coordinated, mother-friendly care.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes.
  • Promote Standards: Help implement Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI) guidelines.
  • Telehealth: Offer virtual support and follow-ups via phone or video.
  • Training: Educate other healthcare professionals on breastfeeding best practices.
  • Required Skills & Qualifications
  • Education: BSc (Nursing), often with specialized lactation certification (e.g., BPNI, IBCLC).
  • Experience: Previous experience in maternal/child health or lactation support is preferred.
  • Communication: Excellent interpersonal, counselling, and presentation skills.
  • Empathy: Sensitivity and ability to offer emotional reassurance.
  • Technical: Knowledge of lactation physiology, basic computer skills (Word, Excel).

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: ₹25,000.00 - ₹35,000.00 per month
