The Monarch San Antonio - A Legacy of Service and Sophistication

The Monarch San Antonio, part of the Curio Collection by Hilton, is a 200-room, 17-story boutique hotel located in the Hemisfair District of downtown San Antonio. It is set to open in early 2026 and is inspired by the Monarch butterfly that migrates through the region each winter. The hotel will feature a full-service spa, a terrace pool, and five food and beverage concepts, including a rooftop restaurant and bar.

Position Summary

The Landscape & Plant Care Specialist is responsible for maintaining the beauty, health, and presentation of all indoor and outdoor plant life across The Monarch San Antonio. This role plays a key part in creating a refined, welcoming environment that reflects the hotel’s luxury standards. This team member ensures all greenery, floral displays, and landscaped areas are consistently maintained, seasonally refreshed, and aligned with the overall aesthetic of the property. The role requires hands-on plant care, attention to detail, and a strong understanding of horticulture practices.

Essential Functions

  • Maintain all indoor and outdoor plants, including watering, pruning, fertilizing, and pest management.
  • Monitor plant health and proactively address issues to ensure optimal appearance and longevity.
  • Replace, rotate, or refresh plants as needed to maintain a polished and vibrant look.
  • Perform routine landscape maintenance including trimming, weed removal, and general grounds care.
  • Maintain cleanliness and presentation of landscaped areas, entryways, patios, and outdoor guest spaces.
  • Assist with seasonal landscaping updates and enhancements.
  • Design, install, and maintain seasonal plant arrangements both inside and outside the hotel.
  • Ensure all arrangements align with the hotel’s luxury aesthetic and brand standards.
  • Support special events or holidays with customized plants or floral displays.
  • Source and select plants from local nurseries based on seasonal needs and design direction.
  • Transport plants and materials to the property as needed.
  • Maintain inventory of plants, tools, and supplies.
  • Partner with Engineering and Housekeeping teams to ensure seamless upkeep of all guest-facing areas.
  • Provide recommendations for landscape improvements or enhancements to elevate the guest experience.

Qualifications & Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • At least 2 years of experience in landscaping, horticulture, grounds maintenance, or interior plant care preferred.
  • Experience maintaining both indoor and outdoor plants in a commercial, hospitality, or high-visibility environment preferred.
  • Experience creating or maintaining seasonal plant displays and arrangements preferred.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of plant care, including watering, pruning, fertilizing, weed control, and identifying signs of plant stress or disease.
  • Working knowledge of seasonal planting practices and landscape upkeep.
  • Ability to maintain the appearance and health of plants in both interior and exterior hotel spaces.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and manage daily plant care priorities.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to presentation standards consistent with a luxury hotel environment.
  • Perform irrigation system maintenance.
  • Apply basic engineering knowledge as part of daily responsibilities.
  • Assist with general engineering duties, including responding to guest room service calls.
  • Be available to work rotating AM and PM shifts.
  • Ability to safely operate basic landscaping tools and equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with other hotel departments.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Acceptable driving record required.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods
  • Occasional lifting or movement of materials up to 50 lbs

Other Duties

  • Perform any other duties as assigned by management.
  • Maintain a flexible work schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
