With multiple offices, more than 300 employees, and 7 divisions – Asphalt and Concrete, Waterproofing and Specialty Coatings, Roofing, Snow Removal and Parking Lot Sweeping, Landscaping, and Construction – DCPS provides specialized, integrated service solutions to commercial property owners and managers.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Quality Landscape Installation
- Accurately installs project according to plans and budget
- Reviews, understands, and follows: blueprints, grading plans, irrigation plans, planting plans, construction drawings, proposals, and budgets
- Establishes grades/levels using a laser or zip level
- Consults with Project Manager(s), Construction Manager(s) and other stakeholders throughout project
- Provides high-level, white-glove customer service.
- Maintains a clean and tidy jobsite.
Quality Control
- Inspects all assigned projects while analyzing and resolving problems. Escalates major problems to assigned Project Manager
- Oversees production of assigned projects, ensuring each project is kept on schedule and on budget
- Communicates project updates, progress, and issues to Project & Construction Manager(s) promptly for each project
- Visits worksites daily and meets with Foreman to capture project updates and assist with project when necessary
- Assists with oversight of subcontractors to ensure quality of work and timely, accurate completion of projects
- Works cohesively with Project Manager(s), Construction Manager(s) and other stakeholders to continually evaluate and improve procedures
- Assists with material and equipment mobilization to job sites
- Interfaces with suppliers to ensure timely and accurate delivery of job materials
Training, Development, and Safety
- Identifies training needs for front line crew members
- Ensures that all safety and DCPS standards are followed. Acts on and reports unsafe conditions promptly.
- Evaluates employee safety data promoting safe work practices and conditions, ensuring employees attend weekly safety meetings
- Conducts weekly truck and trailer inventories with assigned crews
- Ensures equipment and tools are properly maintained.
- Evaluates equipment utilization and recommends future equipment and tool purchases
Project and Crew Management
- Manages front line crews ensuring adherence to budgets
- Consults with Project Manager(s), Construction Manager(s) and other stakeholders to develop action plans
- Manages equipment utilization on projects, equipment storage, maintenance, and security
- Ensures that all construction services are delivered according to contract specifications within budget and on schedule
- Fosters and champions DCPS’s Core Values on a daily basis
- Actively participates in required weekly meetings and one on ones as needed
- Ensures job preparations are made for next day’s work
- Provides performance feedback of assigned crews to Construction Manager(s)
- Assists Construction Manager(s) with onsite coaching, evaluating, and training front line crews in landscape construction best practices
Time Management
- Reports hours and project progress via designated channels
- Maintains accurate and daily time keeping via timekeeping software
- Accurately report timecards to internal stakeholders on a daily basis
- Manages crew to ensure projects stay within assigned hours budget
Snow Crew
- Maintains 24-hour on call status during snow season
- Properly operates snow removal equipment
- Plows, shovels, blows and apply ice melt in designated areas as assigned
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Horticulture, Construction, or related field of study; 8 years of combined education and experience in lieu of degree
- Able to effectively use Microsoft Office Suite (Create and edit documents in Word, write and respond to emails in Outlook, edit and update Excel worksheets)
- Familiarity with construction software and job packs (Enter and review timecards, production reporting, forecasting, manage subcontractors and materials)
- Able to read, write, and speak English
- Able to understand and speak Spanish (preferred)
- Able to read and interpret construction plans, job packs, and verbal instructions
- OSHA 10 preferred
Able to perform all aspects of landscape, hardscape, and irrigation construction
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods (up to 8–10 hours per day).
- Ability to climb ladders and access elevated work areas, including rooftops at heights of 20+ feet.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
- Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, and crouch as needed to inspect work and assist crews.
- Ability to maintain balance and stability while working on sloped or uneven surfaces.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, wind, and precipitation.
- Ability to use hands and arms for handling, installing, positioning, and moving materials and equipment.
- Sufficient visual acuity to inspect roofing systems, identify defects, and read plans or documents.
- Ability to hear and communicate effectively in a noisy construction environment.
- Ability to wear and properly use required personal protective equipment (PPE), including fall protection gear.
