Job Summary
As a Landscape Designer for a residential design-build company, your job is to help clients plan beautiful outdoor spaces (landscapes, hardscapes, and pools) and guide them through the sales process. You meet with new leads, create design plans, and help clients make the best investment in their yard possible. Then you work with the production team to hand off the job and make sure everything stays on track.
You use your creativity and clear communication to turn ideas into real projects. You also help the company grow by keeping clients happy, updating the sales system, and hitting your sales goals.
Core Responsibilities
Client Communication & Relationship Building
- Meet with new leads and figure out what they need, like, and can afford
- Keep in touch from the first meeting until the project is handed off to the production team, but be available during construction.
- Build trust with clients, vendors, and partners
Design & Proposal Development
- Measure the job site (this includes slopes, utilities, and layout)
- Manage design to meet code requirements and HOA guidelines
- Create full design plans using tools like AutoCAD, SketchUp/Pool Studio, and Adobe (plans must be buildable - not just "pretty")
- Make sure your drawings clearly show the design idea and value
- Share your design with the client, listen to their feedback, and make updates if needed
Estimating & Budget Support
- Work with the Estimator to build an accurate budget for each design
- Suggest ways to lower costs without changing the main vision
- If the scope changes, send the update to the Estimator within 24 hours
Sales & Contract Closure
- Present proposals and explain what’s included and why
- Talk through price and project details, and answer questions professionally
- Handle permit applications and give the final set to the Project Coordinator
- Keep clients updated weekly before construction starts and record notes in BuilderTrend
- Meet your quarterly sales goals
Project Handoff & Support
- Participate in the handoff meeting with the Project Coordinator and Field Operations Manager
- Explain the full scope, design goals, and client expectations
- Stay available to answer questions during construction if needed
CRM & Sales System Updates
- Keep BuilderTrend and Aspire updated daily — log notes, designs, next steps.
