Position: Landscape Designer & Salesperson

Hicks Nurseries, the premier retail and wholesale garden center on Long Island, is looking for Landscape Designer & Salesperson to join our team. With a proud legacy in the industry, Hicks offers a fast-paced, friendly environment where customers and team members alike love to grow.


Objective:

This role focuses on closing sales opportunities while delivering an exceptional client experience built on trust, communication, and creativity. You'll prepare innovative and desirable landscape design solutions that reflect a diverse array of styles and site conditions, all within the unique Long Island environment.

You’ll manage the sales process from initial contact through project handoff, creating highly profitable, artistic, and inspiring outdoor living spaces. This role is ideal for someone who is both a strong relationship builder and a creative designer.


Essential Functions:


1. Sales & Client Relationships

  • Follow the company’s documented sales process from lead to close.
  • Identify client goals and provide compelling design-based solutions.
  • Develop unique, artistic, and site-specific landscape designs.
  • Present proposals professionally and persuasively.
  • Manage your sales pipeline efficiently using our CRM.
  • Meet or exceed personal and company sales and margin targets.
  • Build long-term relationships with clients and consistently exceed expectations.
  • Document all leads and actively follow up on proposals.

2. Project Management (Post-Sale)

  • Prepare accurate construction drawings and material takeoffs.
  • Provide thorough project handoffs to project and production managers.
  • Understand and apply local zoning codes, permitting processes, and regulations.
  • Support clients at permitting or variance hearings as needed.
  • Capture project photos for marketing and documentation purposes.
  • Track outstanding client invoices and follow up as appropriate.

3. Sales & Financial Performance

  • Collaborate with the General Manager to set and track sales goals.
  • Regularly analyze your sales and margin performance to improve future outcomes.

4. Business Development & Industry Engagement

  • Prospect for new business through networking and relationship-building.
  • Establish and nurture connections with builders, real estate agents, architects, developers, and other potential lead sources.
  • Stay current on industry trends, materials, and design techniques.
  • Gather client testimonials and represent the company at trade shows, peer groups, and industry events.

  • 1–3 years of experience in landscape sales.
  • Degree in Landscape Design, Landscape Architecture, or related field.
  • Strong horticultural knowledge and site design sensibility.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ability to learn internal software tools.
  • Excellent communication skills—written, verbal, and interpersonal.
  • Professionalism and ability to build strong client relationships.
