Landscape Installation Crew Leader - YEAR-ROUND FULL-TIME POSITION

Job Summary

The Landscape Installation Crew Leader at RJ Lawn & Landscape is a hands-on leader responsible for delivering high-quality landscape installations while developing people, protecting safety, and representing RJ’s standard of excellence on every jobsite.

Building from the technical foundation of a Landscape Installation Technician 2, the Crew Leader leads installation crews through residential and commercial projects with clarity, organization, and pride in workmanship. This role blends advanced landscape installation skills with leadership, planning, and communication—ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently, and to RJ Lawn & Landscape’s quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

Jobsite Leadership & Accountability

  • Lead daily jobsite operations for landscape installation projects, ensuring safety, quality, and efficiency.
  • Plan and organize daily work, crew responsibilities, and installation sequencing.
  • Take ownership of jobsite results by holding yourself and crew members accountable to RJ standards.
  • Serve as the primary jobsite leader, escalating issues, questions, or plan discrepancies to management proactively.
  • Demonstrate professionalism in appearance, communication, and conduct as a representative of RJ Lawn & Landscape.

Advanced Landscape Installation

  • Execute and oversee advanced landscape construction tasks, including grading, base preparation, hardscape installation, drainage components, and finishing details.
  • Lead advanced planting operations, ensuring best practices in plant handling, spacing, soil preparation, and post-install care.
  • Read and interpret landscape plans, details, and layouts to ensure accuracy and consistency with design intent.
  • Proactively identify quality issues and coach the crew to correct them before project completion.
  • Ensure all work meets or exceeds RJ’s craftsmanship and longevity expectations.

Site Management & Production Efficiency

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and professional jobsite at all times.
  • Coordinate materials, equipment, and deliveries to minimize downtime and rework.
  • Monitor labor efficiency, productivity, and workflow throughout the project.
  • Communicate material needs, shortages, or delays clearly and early to avoid production interruptions.

Crew Training, Coaching & Development

  • Lead, train, and mentor Landscape Installation Technicians (Levels 1 & 2).
  • Provide clear instruction, hands-on training, and real-time feedback.
  • Model RJ’s expectations for workmanship, teamwork, and personal ownership.
  • Support the professional growth of crew members by reinforcing best practices and company standards.
  • Build a positive, respectful team environment where people feel supported and motivated to perform.

Equipment Operation & Oversight

  • Safely and proficiently operate all landscape installation equipment, including skid loaders, Dingos, landscape trucks, and hand tools.
  • Ensure team members operate equipment correctly and safely.
  • Perform daily equipment checks and report maintenance or safety concerns promptly.
  • Protect company equipment through proper use, care, and accountability.

Documentation & Communication

  • Complete and submit accurate daily jobsite documentation, including time, materials, and field notes.
  • Document plan changes, obstacles, or field adjustments clearly and thoroughly.
  • Communicate jobsite status, challenges, and successes with the Production Manager or Install Manager.
  • Support accurate job costing and project closeout through detailed documentation.

Safety Leadership

  • Lead safety on the jobsite by enforcing all RJ Lawn & Landscape safety policies and procedures.
  • Conduct daily safety awareness and hazard identification.
  • Ensure proper PPE use and safe work practices at all times.
  • Model a “safety-first, no shortcuts” mindset and intervene immediately when unsafe behaviors are observed.
  • Participate in and support continuous safety training initiatives.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Proven experience as a Landscape Installation Technician 2 or equivalent.
  • Strong working knowledge of landscape construction, hardscape, softscape, and planting best practices.
  • Ability to read and execute landscape plans and installation details.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability with a team-first mindset.
  • Strong communication skills and willingness to have clear, respectful conversations.
  • High attention to detail and strong sense of personal accountability.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Valid driver’s license; CDL preferred or ability to maintain eligibility.
  • Clean criminal record.

Pay: $19.35 - $30.00 per hour
