Landscape Maintenance

  • United Community Action Network is currently recruiting for Landscape Maintenance Position.

    40 Hours Per Week, 52 Weeks Per Year

    ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • In conjunction with the seasons, provide a variety of grounds maintenance duties, such as: planting, fertilize, weed, water, prune, sweep, rake, spread bark mulch or peat moss, blow leaves, pick up litter, etc. Cut, fertilize, water and restore lawns. Position requires consistent and reliable attendance.
    • Assist Facility Maintenance personnel with housing turnovers when requested.
    • Perform corrective maintenance to agency buildings; such as: basic irrigation repairs, maintain signage, clean gutters and downspouts; clean parking lots and dumpster areas; clean drain catches; maintain underground watering systems. Power wash building siding, sidewalks and parking areas. Clean laundry rooms and clean and re-stock restrooms at apartment sites.
    • Remove ice/snow, leaves, and dead or diseased trees. Paint or refinish outdoor furniture and parking lot stripes and numbers. Pick up litter around facilities and empty trashcans as needed.
    • Operate hand and/or power tools appropriate to duty, such as: gas-powered mowers, tillers, electric clippers and edgers. Perform basic maintenance and repair to equipment.
    • Work independently or as a team to co complete jobs as assigned. Operate a full-size van with and without trailer attached to transport materials required to complete assigned work. Clean and maintain working area, work van and trailer.

Knowledge of: Reasonable knowledge of grounds maintenance and related equipment; basic knowledge of hand and power tools associated with facility/landscape maintenance; basic knowledge of OSHA standards that govern safe work environments.

Skill in: Safe operation of appropriate power tools and equipment.

Ability to: .Communicate effectively in oral and written forms; interpret and comply with written and oral instructions; ability to tow a trailer and back-up a trailer; work within team environment; estimate time and materials for individual projects and manage time efficiently; adjust to priority changes and work well under pressure; multitask; employ problem identification and resolution techniques; remain calm and use good judgment during confrontational or high pressure situations; establish and maintain records; courteously meet and deal effectively with other employees, residents and the public. Must follow all safety rules and practices, and perform work in a safe manner.

Education, experience and training: One year progressively responsible work experience in grounds maintenance which affords work related experience OR any satisfactory equivalent combination of experience and training. At time of appointment, must possess a valid Oregon driver's license and experience in pulling small utility trailer.

Driving and Background Check

  • This position requires driving between facilities using a company-owned vehicle. At time of appointment, must possess valid Oregon driver’s license. Finalist must provide court print driving record that meets the requirements of the UCAN Driver Policy as part of contingent offer of employment.
  • Prior to hire and continuously during employment - enrollment in the Oregon Department of Education, Early Learning Division, Criminal Background Registry. Link to apply: https://secure.emp.state.or.us/ccd/.

Other Requirements:

  • UCAN provides training to acquire an initial first aid card within 30 days of hire and renew as necessary to keep current.
  • Following appointment and within 60 days, must participate in a Head Start staff health appraisal.

Physical Demand and Working Conditions:

  • This position requires bending, lifting occasionally up to 60 pounds, frequently lifting between 5 & 25 pounds, reaching, walking, carrying, manipulating, sitting, pulling, stooping, keyboarding, pushing and standing.
  • This position requires frequent mental and/or visual attention.
  • This position is often performed under somewhat disagreeable working conditions, with exposure to dust, dirt, cold and water.
