Lawyer, Office of General Counsel and Compliance

Role Purpose:

Provide timely and effective legal services, advice, and counsel to the university, ensuring that all operations and business activities comply with applicable Egyptian laws and regulations. The role is vital in mitigating financial risk by managing legal matters, representing the university before governmental bodies, and drafting/reviewing crucial legal instruments (contracts, opinions, etc.).


Core Responsibilities:

  • Legal Research and Counsel: Conduct comprehensive legal research and provide timely, effective legal opinions to various University units and personnel concerning diverse aspects of Egyptian law.
  • External Representation: Represent the University before governmental bodies, agencies, and committees to manage and follow up on matters relating to the University's business.
  • Contract Drafting and Review: Draft, negotiate, and review all University contracts, including procurement agreements, information technology contracts, and service agreements, ensuring legal soundness.
  • Regulatory Monitoring and Compliance: Monitor recent changes in applicable laws, regulations, and decrees and advise the University on potential impacts these changes may have on business and operations.
  • Dispute and Litigation Liaison: Liaise with external legal counsels regarding existing and potential legal disputes and lawsuits involving the University, issuing periodical reports on their status.
  • Internal Support: Assist in conducting internal investigations and managing numerous legal matters, providing timely support and advice to personnel to prevent claims and liabilities.
  • General Administrative Support: Perform other administrative duties as required.


Qualifications and Skills

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor of Law and Registered at the Egyptian Bar Association.
  • Minimum of 9 years of experience in the general legal field, with good knowledge and practice.

Technical Skills:

  • Legal Drafting: Efficiency in drafting and reviewing legal documents in both
  • Arabic and English.
  • Research and Analysis: Strong research and analytical skills. Ability to analyze facts, evidence, and legal instruments to determine issues in various cases.
  • Communication and Teamwork: Very good command of English and Arabic, written and spoken. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within a diverse community.
