Layout Technician

Job Summary:
The Layout Technician will be responsible for layouts of machined castings and related tooling/fixtures as well as auditing and inspecting the machining process.

Responsibilities:
  • Set up and operate the CMM proficiently to perform layouts on castings, fixtures and gages
  • Layout castings using the conventional height gauges, micrometers, calipers etc. (Table Layouts)
  • Audit vendor supplied layouts of machining.
  • Work with CNC machining setup personnel and operators to adjust process/program and achieve conformance of product
  • Audit machining process and operators to ensure quality of product
  • Assist in maintaining database of layouts and other quality records in an ‘audit-ready’ state
  • Participate in dimensional capability studies when and where required.
  • Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.
  • Observe all safety and environmental policies of Grede Biscoe and work in a safe and professional manner
  • Other duties as assigned by supervision.
Training Skills:
  • Employee will take place in training program for specific position.
  • Willing to learn CMM programming and CNC setup and programming, possibly at an off-site location
  • Receive training in the automotive industry standard IATF 16949 and ISO 9001
Requirements:
  • Minimum of a high school education.
  • Mathematical background/skills required (algebra and trigonometry).
  • Must be able to real blueprints.
  • Must have working knowledge of GD&T
  • Two years’ experience in a machine shop preferred.
  • Must be able to stand, bend, twist, and lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment, physical, drug screen, and background check.
  • Must be able to pass medical clearance: asthma, COPD, breathing conditions, respiratory conditions, high blood pressure are potential causes of failing a medical clearance.
