We are seeking a seasoned Lead Backend Systems Engineer to architect and deliver robust, scalable backend services and data workflows for our mission-critical platform. In this role, you will design API services, develop resilient data pipelines, and define core backend logic that powers real-time customer experiences. You will collaborate closely with executive leadership, cross-functional engineering teams, and customers to ensure our systems are reliable, performant, and aligned with product objectives. This is a hands-on leadership position where complex technical challenges meet strategic decision-making.

Lead backend system architecture, defining technical strategy in collaboration with the CTO and leadership team.

Design, implement, and scale API services using Python and FastAPI.

Build resilient data ingestion and transformation pipelines for large volumes of structured and unstructured data from distributed or unstable external sources.

Architect asynchronous, event-driven workflows to support automation, continuous processing, and scalable decision-making.

Define and maintain backend service behavior, business logic, and product workflows for new features and platform expansions.

Ensure seamless communication and integration between backend, frontend, infrastructure, and data teams.

Engage with customers to understand practical use cases and translate them into backend solutions.

Drive best practices in code quality, system observability, deployment processes, and Kubernetes-based scalability.

Mentor and guide engineers in backend architecture, distributed systems, and operational excellence.

Extensive experience building production-grade backends with Python, FastAPI, and containerized environments (Kubernetes).

Proven expertise in asynchronous architectures, distributed worker systems, and complex data pipelines.

Strong understanding of API design, streaming vs. request-response patterns, and scalable system operations.

Hands-on experience designing systems that process data from unreliable or high-latency external sources.

Excellent problem-solving skills, systems-thinking mindset, and strategic technical decision-making.

Strong communication and collaboration abilities across engineering, product, and customer teams.

Passion for building reliable, real-world product experiences while mentoring team members.

Experience with event-based workflows, queues, or orchestration engines.

Familiarity with data compliance, security standards, or regulated data systems.

Background in real-time dashboards, analytics platforms, or automation-intensive products.
