Job purpose

The Lead Bartender is responsible for providing an exceptional member and guest bar experience while leading the bar team in delivering excellent service. This role blends hands-on mixology with leadership, ensuring that the bar operates smoothly, efficiently, and at the highest standards.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Craft and serve a curated selection of classic and innovative cocktails, fine wines, and premium spirits.
  • Lead and mentor the bar team, setting the standard for professionalism, service, and hospitality.
  • Engage with members and guests, offering personal recommendations and creating memorable bar experiences.
  • Maintain extensive knowledge of mixology, wines, spirits, and emerging beverage trends, sharing expertise with the team.
  • Manage bar inventory, ensuring proper stock levels, quality control, and adherence to club policies.
  • Assist with developing and presenting bar menus that reflect the club’s high standards and member preferences.
  • Uphold the Club’s service standards, maintaining a refined, polished, and welcoming bar environment.
  • Handle VIP and special requests with discretion, ensuring seamless and elevated experiences
  • Maintain procedures in securing the Club’s Liquor, Beer, Wine and Non-Alcoholic inventory and monitor drink pours to ensure the budgeted Cost Of Goods Sold is consistently met or exceeded.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and visually appealing bar area at all times
  • Comply with all health, safety, and responsible alcohol service regulations.
  • Other duties as assigned by Director of Food & Beverage or General Manager

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a bartender in a high-end hospitality setting (luxury hotel, fine dining restaurant, or private club preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of spirits, cocktails, wine, and mixology techniques.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to train and inspire a team.
  • Exceptional ability to engage with elite clientele while maintaining professionalism and discretion
  • Impeccable attention to detail, presentation, and service quality.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
  • Willingness to work during peak hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Certification in responsible alcohol service (e.g., TIPS, ServSafe Alcohol) preferred.

Working conditions

Work is primarily indoors with some outdoor exposure. Potential exposure to sharp and rapid equipment movement, sharp utensils, harmful chemicals and/or being exposed to flying golf balls.

Physical requirements

Good organizational and verbal skills. Ability to use logical and rational thinking to resolve issues. Ability to perform basic mathematical skills, monitors and develops subordinates, visually monitor the operation areas, write and read member communication.

Must have the ability to perform moderate physical work and may be required to lift up to 50 lbs., up to 30 lbs. frequently and up to 20 lbs. constantly. Perform activities such as bending, kneeling, crouching, climbing, reaching, standing, pushing, lifting and grasping for up to 5 hours without sitting. Ability to consistently lift, carry and load equipment that may weigh 40 or more pounds, and sustain aerobic activity for 20 consecutive minutes.

Please be advised that all work that requires the use of a ladder more than 8 ft. long must be reviewed by Hampton Golf’s Club Maintenance person. Following an assessment of the situation, a determination will be made as to whether a maintenance team member or subcontractors will perform the necessary maintenance task. No other staff member is authorized to climb to heights exceeding 8 ft. and/or perform such maintenance. In addition, personnel are prohibited from entering facility attics, walking on the roof of buildings and/or from using scaffolding.
