Position Overview:

MPC has an opportunity for a Lead Business Planning and Analysis Analyst! The role is responsible for capturing, analyzing, forecasting, and reporting financial and operational data in support of the US Gulf Coast Clean Products Division. This Lead Analyst will own and be the subject matter expert for commercial and financial analysis for Gas, Diesel and Jet Fuel activity both in the Bulk Domestic market and International markets supporting the two largest refineries in MPC’s system. There is tremendous breadth and scope associated with this role to ensure that there is clarity on the financial impact of product placement decisions, inventory build/draw events, key drivers of margin impacts and financial analysis of the affiliate and third-party logistics services. These responsibilities are carried out in support of the annual Business Plan, monthly and quarterly reporting and forecasting, and other related initiatives. The Lead Analyst will regularly interface with senior leaders, managers and staff as well as personnel in the BP&A and Accounting organizations. This role will report to the South BP&A Manager and be based in San Antonio, TX.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leads monthly and quarterly operational and financial performance reporting, providing comprehensive insights into trends, variances, and discrepancies. Bridge indicative operational P&Ls to GAAP financial P&Ls.
  • Leads the development and presentation of divisional business plans, forecasts and expense budgets, working closely with business unit leaders to ensure accurate data and projections utilizing a high degree of automation.
  • Designs and maintains advanced financial models, providing detailed analysis resulting in the identification of business improvement opportunities that can enhance margin realization, reduce costs, or increase efficiencies. Possesses a deep understanding of key business drivers and KPIs, monitors them throughout the month to generate real-time insights.
  • Collaborates and interfaces with South Division and Supply Trading and Origination leadership and participates in strategic meetings, offering performance insights and counsel.
  • Communicates financial and commercial information to relevant departments with the express purpose of creating greater awareness
  • Consistently identifies opportunities for improvement, experiments with new approaches, seeks out best practices, and reimagines current methods to increase efficiency, effectiveness, or quality. Constantly seeks to leverage automation to eliminate non-value-add manual processes.
  • Leads smaller projects or components of larger projects, coordinating tasks, monitoring execution and ensuring successful outcomes. Acts as a resource for other BP&A team members, offering guidance and expertise on complex financial issues.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or related discipline required. Masters, CPA, or MBA preferred
  • Eight (8) years in Accounting, Finance, Commercial, or related field.
  • Oil and Gas, Downstream or Energy experience is strongly preferred
  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office applications is required
  • Proficiency with analytical tools such as Power BI or Tableau is strongly preferred
  • SAP, Business Warehouse, and Right-Angle experience preferred
  • Experience with creation of and presentation to senior leaders is preferred

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Minimum undergraduate degree Business, Finance, or Accounting required.
  • Eight (8) years in Accounting, Finance, or related field
