Lead Environmental Engineer (HSSE)

Wood is currently looking for Lead Environmental Engineer to support our Projects business. Ma’aden is executing a strategic project to develop a new gold mine and processing facility in alignment with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 and Ma’aden’s 2040 Strategic Objectives. Located in Ar Rjum, KSA .


  • Support the implementation of Wood’s environmental strategy and approach to environmental management including the implementation of Wood’s environmental standards.
  • Ensure that there is a plan in place to ensure that environmental aspects are appropriately managed and that Wood’s HSSE policy obligations are enacted.
  • Identify, understand and communicate the legal, industrial and contractual environmental obligations placed on Wood.
  • Ensure that key environmental aspects and impacts material to the organisation are identified on the environmental risk register.
  • Develop training and learning experiences to facilitate greater environmental awareness and enable more effective environmental management across the business.
  • Work with assurance teams to make sure that environmental management aspects and impacts are subject to appropriate assurance processes and due diligence.
  • Provide the business with technical environmental services on a broad range of environmental management issues e.g. contaminated land, investigations, client engagement.
  • Manage resources to ensure effective environmental risk mitigation and effective support to Wood management.
  • Provision of technical environmental advice and support to management to make sure that environmental obligations are effectively supported.
  • Manage the provision of effective tools, training and processes needed to manage environmental issues effectively.
  • Manage the effective investigation of environmental incidents and subsequent monitoring to ensure any trends are identified and mitigated effectively.
  • Liaise with the Environmental Director and legal teams to manage environmental regulatory issues and/or investigations.
  • Communicate environmental key performance indicators, trends, issues, alerts etc to Wood’s
  • Environmental Director, management and central support teams.
  • Support the business to maintain environmental licences, certifications and memberships.

Qualifications:

  • First and higher degree in Environmental related discipline
  • + 10 years of experience

Knowledge, skills and experience:

  • Development of environmental management systems to ISO standards
  • Authoring environmental management processes & procedures
  • Excellent technical writing skills
  • Investigation and incident management skills
  • Environmental law and governance
  • Broad industrial and construction related exposure
  • On-site practical knowledge and experience
  • Environmental KPI monitoring and interpretation
  • Interfacing with and influencing senior management

Personal attributes:

  • Driving licence
  • Willing to travel internationally
  • Excellent communication & literacy skills
