The Home Office processes on average 10 million emails per week. This role is a technical specialist role leading and acting as the SME for messaging and hygiene services with additional requirements for implementing and maintaining compliance in line with Government standards utilising the M365 Purview suite. You will also be responsible for line management of infrastructure engineers.
Where business needs allow, some roles may be suitable for a combination of office and home-based working. A Lead Infrastructure Engineer assumes responsibility for managing third party provision of infrastructure services and the provision of expertise to deliver architectural solutions for infrastructure services throughout the service lifecycle.
You will oversee programmes and projects and work with Technical Architects to translate the architectural designs into operations and support technical architects in operationalising the designs.
You will lead and direct infrastructure teams in building, managing, transitioning, supporting and maintaining solutions according to departmental policy and ensure a feedback loop exists with service support to ensure continuous improvement. You are responsible for overall management activities such as workforce planning, budgeting, technology roadmaps, projects and tasks.

This role is available on a full-time basis with the option of compressed hours working. This role is also suitable for part-time working hours, with a minimum requirement to work 3 days per week due to business requirements.

Sift and Interview dates

Interviews are expected to take place from 03/08/2026. (Subject to the Panels operational requirements/priorities).
Interviews will be conducted remotely via MS Teams.

For both new entrants and existing civil servants, the total compensation offer is a combination of base salary and, if applicable, a capability-based allowance. The pay ranges for this role are National: £62,109 - £68,320 and London: £66,229 - £72,852. New entrants to the Civil Service will start on the pay range minimum. For existing civil servants, our policies on level transfer and promotion will apply.
