Position Summary
:


The Lead Preschool Teacher is responsible for creating and maintaining a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate learning environment for children ages 18 months to 3 years. Under the direction of the Little Glad Early Childhood Principal, the Lead Teacher plans and implements a high-quality early childhood program that supports children's academic, social, emotional, and physical development while building a strong foundation for future learning.


The Lead Teacher serves as the instructional leader of the classroom and is responsible for curriculum implementation, assessment of student progress, classroom management, and supervision of Program Assistants and volunteers. The position requires collaboration with families, colleagues, and support staff to ensure the success and wellbeing of all students.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for planning and implementing lessons and activities that meet the physical, emotional, intellectual and social needs of the year round junior preschool program ages 18 months to 3 years old.

  • Ensure the smooth operation of the classroom within the policies, procedures and regulations of the center, local and state agencies
  • Prepare and maintain schedules, lesson plans and student evaluations, using Teaching Strategies Gold.
  • Meet with parents twice annually for conferences
  • Prepare lesson plans; following age-appropriate curriculum for children 18 months through 3 years old
  • Identify children's educational needs and address them with the child's parents or guardians
  • Maintain positive relationships between enrolled families, Little Glad Early Childhood Center, co-workers and the community
  • Provide a monthly newsletter to parents
  • Communicate appropriately as per program policies
  • Discuss student development, achievement and behavior with parents
  • Accept and maintain responsibility of the new arrangement, appearance, and cleanliness of the classroom environment
  • Ensure the safety of each child in the classroom, playground or other common areas
  • Accept and maintain responsibility of the neat arrangement, appearance, décor and cleanliness of the classroom environment
  • Work in conjunction with center’s staff to ensure a cooperative, positive and professional environment
  • Help students develop positive relationships with peers and teachers
  • Foster social emotional development and support preparation for kindergarten
  • Help students integrate with one another and interact in groups, whether they are working on curriculum, completing tasks, or during play activities
  • Identify children with potential special needs, refer to district special needs staff.
  • Follow Individualized Educational Plan (IEP's) for those children who have been identified as needing support services
  • Reports to the Director, coordinates with other Lead Teachers, supervises classroom Program Assistants and volunteers in the classroom
  • Participate in in-service training and attends required meetings
  • Other duties may be assigned

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervise the work of the Program Assistants and volunteers in the classroom

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily
  • The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required
  • Ability to plan and implement activities for maximum effectiveness
  • Basic understanding, knowledge and ability to use current technology and the ability to incorporate it into the classroom

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Development or a CDA in Preschool with Infant and Toddler credits/CEU's or other licensing combinations of education and experience

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating maintenance instructions and procedure manuals
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers, children, parents or employees of the district

REASONING ABILITY:

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions
  • Ability to solve problems in a professional manner

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be physically present, regularly required to sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; talk and hear
  • The employee is regularly required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust, focus, especially due to concentration on a computer screen and small numbers
