Lead Mechanic

Lead Mechanic — Woodinville Shop

Position Summary:

The Lead Mechanic is the senior technician for our Woodinville shop, responsible for performing mechanical and diagnostic repairs while supporting the Shop Manager with daily workflow, safety oversight, and shop coordination. This role is hands-on, focused on repair quality, shop safety, and operational support. The Lead Mechanic assists the Shop Manager in maintaining safe, efficient, and compliant maintenance operations.

Key Responsibilities:

Mechanical & Diagnostic Work

  • Perform repairs, troubleshooting, and maintenance on Class 8 trucks and pneumatic trailers.
  • Use diagnostic programs (Davie, Cummins Insite, CAT ET, Bendix ACom, WABCO Toolbox) to identify and resolve issues.
  • Conduct DOT inspections, PM services, and safety‑critical repairs.
  • Document repairs accurately and assist mechanics with diagnostic questions when needed.

Shop Operations & Workflow Support

  • Support the Shop Manager in monitoring daily workflow, repair progress, and safety compliance.
  • Help prioritize repairs, PMs, and inspections to minimize downtime.
  • Maintain communication with mechanics throughout the day to support safe, efficient work.
  • Ensure adherence to the two‑person rule and assist with equipment movement between the main shop and the overflow yard 4 miles away.

Parts, Inventory & Vendor Coordination

  • Assist with parts ordering and inventory tracking for Woodinville.
  • Maintain accurate counts for tires, wheels, and frequently used parts.
  • Communicate inventory needs or discrepancies to the Shop Manager.
  • Support vendor coordination for repairs, warranty claims, and billing accuracy.

Safety, Training & Team Support

  • Model and enforce safe work practices, including hazard reporting and fall‑protection awareness.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop environment.
  • Help onboard new mechanics and provide guidance on diagnostics and shop procedures.
  • Offer informal performance feedback and escalate concerns to the Shop Manager.

Work Orders & Documentation

  • Ensure work orders are accurate, complete, and submitted promptly.
  • Document diagnostic steps, parts used, and repair outcomes clearly.
  • Help resolve discrepancies and maintain timely Divvy transactions.

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years diesel technician experience required; senior or lead tech experience preferred.
  • Strong understanding of pneumatic trailer systems (air systems, blowers, valves, contamination prevention).
  • Experience with diagnostic software: Davie, Cummins Insite, CAT ET, Bendix ACom, WABCO Toolbox.
  • Ability to support workflow priorities and PM compliance.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently while supporting shop leadership.
  • Valid driver’s license; CDL preferred but not required.

Role Scope Statement

This role is hands-on and central to maintaining safe, efficient, and compliant shop operations. The Lead Mechanic focuses on repair quality, shop safety, and daily operational support within the Woodinville location.

Pay: $35.00 - $40.00 per hour
