Job Description: Lead Mechanical Engineer
Position Overview
The Lead Mechanical Engineer will oversee all mechanical, piping, and insulation activities. This role is responsible for technical leadership, site execution, team management, and ensuring compliance with project specifications, industry standards, and safety requirements throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related field)
- Experience: Minimum 15 years of hands-on experience in mechanical engineering, piping, and insulation in oil and gas or refinery projects
- Expertise: Extensive knowledge of ASME, API, IS codes; proficiency in construction, commissioning, testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance of piping/mechanical systems
Key Responsibilities
Site Execution & Technical Leadership
- Project Oversight: Lead and supervise all mechanical, piping, and insulation works, ensuring timely, safe, and high-quality execution on site
- System Installation: Oversee installation, testing, commissioning, and maintenance of piping systems, mechanical equipment, and insulation works
- Site Supervision: Conduct site inspections and ensure all activities comply with applicable codes, standards, and contract requirements
- Quality Assurance: Implement and monitor quality control measures for mechanical and piping works; ensure compliance with project deliverables and client specifications
Documentation & Project Management
- Technical Documentation: Prepare and review engineering drawings, technical specifications, and construction bid documents
- Progress Reporting: Compile daily, weekly, and monthly progress reports; monitor project milestones, resource allocation, and schedule adherence
- Record Keeping: Maintain comprehensive documentation on testing, inspections, commissioning, and handover processes
Billing & Project Closure
- Measurement & Billing: Oversee preparation of measurements, material reconciliations, and monthly running bills as per project progress
- Punch List Management: Develop punch lists and oversee timely resolution for project closure
- Final Handover: Ensure complete documentation and compliance for successful mechanical completion and project handover
Client & Subcontractor Coordination
- Stakeholder Interface: Act as primary technical contact for clients, consultants (e.g., Worley), and third-party agencies; address technical queries and approvals
- Subcontractor Management: Coordinate project activities with subcontractors and vendors to ensure timely and quality completion of all works
- Meeting Leadership: Lead and participate in project meetings on progress, safety, technical clarifications, and issue resolution with clients, consultants, and field teams
Technical Competencies
- In-depth experience in refinery piping systems, pressure equipment, valves, pumps, insulation, and related disciplines
- Proficiency in reviewing and approving vendor and subcontractor drawings, submittals, fabrication, and erection procedures
- Ability to interpret complex technical drawings, isometrics, P&IDs, and project specifications
- Familiarity with material selection, welding, NDT, and process optimization for refinery applications

Additional Information
The Lead Mechanical Engineer is required on a full-time basis at the IOCL Guwahati Refinery site, Assam, coordinating closely with the project team, clients, and site engineers to ensure timely and successful completion of mechanical, piping, and insulation works in line with project requirements.

Pay: ₹25,000.00 - ₹50,000.00 per month
