Job Overview

In the Lead Pharmacy Technician role, you will work under the supervision of the Pharmacist-in-Charge. You will be responsible for supporting the pharmacists in dispensing medications, managing inventory, and providing exceptional customer service to patients. You will also lead and manage your team of Pharmacy Technicians under the direction or supervision of the Pharmacist-in-Charge

Responsibilities:

1. **Prescription Preparation and Dispensing**
- Assist pharmacists in preparing and dispensing prescription medications
- Accurately measure, count, and label medications for patient prescriptions.
- Prepare unit-dose medications for inpatient use and blister packs for outpatient use.
- Operate pharmacy equipment such as pill counters and label printers.

2. **Customer Service**
- Provide friendly and efficient customer service to patients and healthcare providers
- Answer patient inquiries regarding prescription status, medication instructions, and pharmacy services
- Handle prescription pick-up and drop-off, ensuring accurate patient information and payment processing

- Perform patient outreach and communicate with patients effectively to close gaps in their medication therapy

3. **Inventory Management**
- Manage pharmacy inventory, including ordering, receiving, and stocking medications and supplies
- Conduct regular inventory audits to maintain accurate stock levels and prevent shortages
- Monitor expiration dates and remove expired or recalled medications from inventory
- Assist with the organization and cleanliness of the pharmacy storage areas

4. **Data Entry and Record-Keeping**
- Enter prescription information into the pharmacy management system accurately and efficiently
- Maintain accurate patient profiles and medication records
- Process insurance claims and resolve billing issues with insurance companies
- Ensure compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements related to prescription processing and record-keeping

5. **Medication Safety and Quality Assurance**
- Adhere to safety protocols and best practices in medication handling and dispensing
- Assist in monitoring for potential medication errors and discrepancies
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance pharmacy services
- Support pharmacists in conducting medication reviews and utilization reviews

6. **Leadership and Supportive Duties**
- Lead and manage the assigned team of Pharmacy Technicians, including performance, under direction of the Pharmacist-in-Charge

- Assist pharmacists with administrative tasks, including scheduling and workflow management
- Participate in staff meetings and training sessions to stay updated on pharmacy policies and procedures
- Provide training and guidance to new pharmacy technicians and interns
- Perform other duties as assigned by the pharmacist or Pharmacist-in-Charge

Required Skills

  • Active pharmacy technician certification (CPhT) preferred or required depending on state regulations
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience as a pharmacy technician required
  • Strong knowledge of pharmacy operations, medication names, and dosage forms
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Effective communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency with pharmacy software and technology systems
  • Previous experience with leadership and interpersonal skills preferred

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Completion of a pharmacy technician training program preferred

Working Conditions:

  • Full-time, typically requiring 40+ hours per week
  • Work is performed in an office setting
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
  • Able to travel as needed
