The Lead Quality Technician is responsible for determining material and product conformance to customer drawing and quality requirements through initial inspection, in-process fabrication and machining audits, and final fabrication and machining inspection as defined by inspection/test plans, inspection reports, and internal Brilex Quality Systems. The scope of this position is primarily located at Brilex Industries Plant 2.
MAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Monitor in-process quality and final results of manufacturing
- Dimensional and geometric inspection of fabrications
- Perform weld quality inspection (VT/MT/PT)
- Interface with 3rd Party NDE (UT/RT) inspection activity
- Inspection of machining features using precision measurement tools
- Shot-Blast and painting Inspection
- Final detailing/packaging/pre-shipment inspection
- Create, complete, and control clear and accurate inspection report documentation for the record keeping of project measurement data
- Assist with Maintaining Brilex internal calibration system via internal device audits, inspections, and re-calibrations
- Perform internal process audits to confirm the sustainability of established process control and inspection and assist with process improvement activities
- Assist with customer source inspections and customer quality-related visits and requests
- Assist with Brilex non-conformance process through NCR initiation, dispositioning, and completion and support activity related to Root Cause Analysis and Corrective Action
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- 5 years Quality Experience preferably in a heavy machinery manufacturing setting (2-year or 4-year degree may substitute experience)
- Understanding of the machining process, Machine Shop background and/or experience as a Machinist
- Ability to understand and interpret manufacturing code quality documentation and criteria
- Read and interpret customer blueprints and specification documentation
- Ability to understand and apply tolerances and GD&T principles
- FARO metrology, CMM, or other computer-aided measurement experience
- Use of Microsoft Office Suite and other basic computer skills
- Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Communication and interpersonal skills
- Experience with documenting and logging inspection reports.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Certification
- American Society of Quality (ASQ) Certification(s) – CQA, CQE
- Experience with Department of Defense (DOD) contract requirements
- Experience at an ASME Coded Shop
- Welding/Fabrication background
- Extensive experience reading and interpreting fabrication blueprints and identifying fabrication dimensions, welding symbols, and NDT symbols.
- Ability to gauge weld fit-ups and weld sizes using symbol gauges.
- NDE (VT/PT/MT) certification or experience and capability to obtain Level I/II certification
- Working knowledge of AWS D1.1, ASME BPVC, and/or NAVSEA fabrication, welding, and inspection code
- Experience with weld program quality control and PQR/WPQ/WPS documentation
- Trade school diploma or Journeyman card
- AWS CWI certification
