Lead Reporter

Responsibilities:

- Covering news and writing feature stories in Swain County, NC
- Edit and proofread written content for accuracy, clarity, grammar, and style
- Ensure adherence to the AP Style book or other specified style guides
- Fact-check information and verify sources
- Cover local government and feature stories

Requirements:
- Proven experience as a reporter
- Strong command of the English language, including grammar, punctuation, and spelling
- Familiarity with various writing styles and the ability to adapt to different tones and voices
- Proficiency in word processing software and other editing tools
- Excellent research skills to ensure accuracy of information
- Attention to detail and a meticulous approach to work
- Strong communication skills

Preferred Skills:
- Hands-on experience working on a community newspaper
- Background in journalism or related field
- Knowledge of proposal writing techniques

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $38,000.00 - $40,000.00 per year
