The School Age Teacher supports the successful operation of the before- and after-school program by creating a safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate environment for school-aged children. This role ensures high standards of safety, supervision, learning activities, and communication with families. The School Age Teacher serves as a consistent, positive role model for students and collaborates closely with site leadership and staff to maintain smooth daily operations.
Key Responsibilities1. Program Operations & Supervision
- Supervise students during before-school, after-school, and full-day program hours.
- Maintain required ratios at all times and ensure safe transitions between activities.
- Support daily program flow, including attendance tracking, snack distribution, indoor/outdoor play, and homework support.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized program environment.
2. Curriculum, Activities & Engagement
- Implement developmentally appropriate activities, games, and learning experiences.
- Support students with homework and enrichment activities as needed.
- Encourage positive behavior, collaboration, and social-emotional development.
- Prepare materials and supplies for daily lessons and activities.
3. Health, Safety & Licensing Compliance
- Ensure compliance with all state licensing requirements and program policies.
- Conduct safety checks and monitor children for signs of illness or injury.
- Complete incident and accident reports accurately and promptly.
- Maintain awareness of allergies, medical needs, and emergency procedures.
4. Staff Collaboration & Professionalism
- Work closely with the Center Director, Center Lead, and teaching team to ensure consistent program quality.
- Participate in team meetings, trainings, and required professional development.
- Support new staff through modeling expectations and contributing to a positive, respectful work culture.
5. Family Communication
- Greet families warmly during drop-off and pick-up.
- Communicate daily updates, behavioral notes, or concerns in a timely and professional manner.
- Maintain positive and supportive relationships with families and the school community.
6. Administrative Duties
- Assist with attendance, sign-in/sign-out, and program documentation.
- Help manage program materials, supply inventory, and equipment care.
- Support director or lead with schedule adjustments and operational needs as requested.
Qualifications
- High school diploma required; CDA, ECE coursework, or youth development experience preferred.
- At least 1–2 years of experience working with school-age children in a licensed childcare, recreational, or educational setting.
- Strong understanding of child development, behavior management, and enrichment programming.
- Excellent communication, organization, and supervision skills.
- CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
