As the Lead UEFN Game Designer, you will shape and drive the creative vision behind Oni Studios’ Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN) experiences. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional team members to concept, design, build, and deliver engaging gameplay experiences within Fortnite’s evolving ecosystem. You’ll serve as both a creative leader and a production partner — owning the design direction while overseeing schedules, dependencies, and project health. In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to bring innovative ideas to life, influence audience engagement at scale, and directly contribute to Oni Studios’ expanding footprint in gaming and content creation.
Primary Responsibilities
Lead the creative direction and gameplay vision for UEFN projects from concept to release.
Design, build, and iterate on levels, game loops, systems, and rulesets using UEFN tools, Devices, and Verse logic.
Partner with production team members to determine the time, resources, and staffing needed to complete project deliverables.
Build and maintain project plans, schedules, and roadmaps — ensuring visibility across development, quality assurance, and marketing (video content creation, community engagement) teams.
Provide clear, transparent communication on project status, timelines, risks, and mitigation plans.
Manage development budgets through timelines and freelancer allocations to ensure projects stay within predetermined budgeted hours.
Additional Responsibilities
Collaborate closely with audio/visual artists, game developers, QA, and production partners to ensure high-quality execution.
Playtest regularly and adjust designs based on feedback, player behavior, and performance data.
Ensure proper pacing, scope management, and milestone adherence.
Maintain clean and organized documentation, including gameplay flows, rulesets, performance considerations, and content guidelines.
Stay current with Fortnite Creative trends, community expectations, and competitive landscape.
Support innovation in engagement systems, including progression, rewards, and social loops.
Develop and implement comprehensive game marketing strategies that include social media, content, events, PR, and creator support, ensuring profitability and audience engagement.
Stay ahead of industry trends in UGC Gaming, UGC Game Marketing, Gaming Content Creation, and community engagement.
Education Requirements: No formal degree required; relevant experience and portfolio strongly prioritized.
Experience Requirements:
4+ years of professional experience in game design, with at least 1–2 shipped UEFN or Fortnite Creative projects demonstrating clear ownership.
Experience designing and implementing gameplay systems, features, or levels.
Previous involvement in production, project oversight, or cross-functional team leadership.
Skills and Competencies:
Deep understanding of game design fundamentals, including flow, pacing, player behavior, and systems balance.
Strong proficiency with UEFN tools, Fortnite Devices, and logic scripting.
Ability to lead project planning activities such as requirements gathering, resourcing, and timeline estimation.
Excellent communication and documentation skills with the ability to align creative vision across multiple disciplines.
Strong project management skills with the ability to manage scope, risks, and dependencies.
Passion for creating engaging, player-first experiences.
Additional Skills:
Experience with analytics, structured playtesting, or telemetry to inform design iteration.
Familiarity with live updates, event cycles, or content drops.
Background in PvE or PvP systems design.

Final Decision and Offer.
In the spirit of pay transparency, we are excited to share that the base salary range for this position is $50k-110k, exclusive of benefits or potential bonuses. This position is also eligible for an annual Discretionary Profit-Sharing Bonus. If hired at Oni Studios, your final base salary will be determined by geographic location, skills, education, and/or experience. In addition to those factors, we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider the internal equity of our team members as a part of any final offer. Please note that the above range is the full base salary range for the role. Hiring at the maximum of the range would not be typical, as it would not allow for future & continued salary growth. We also offer a generous compensation and benefits package.
