Lecturer For Emirates culture and societies

Teaching Responsibilities

Deliver Courses on Emirati Culture and Society
Teach undergraduate and/or postgraduate courses covering:

o Emirati traditions, customs, and values

o Social structures, tribal systems, family, and gender roles

o Religion and its role in society (primarily Islam in the Emirati context)

o Economic and political development of the UAE

o UAE history and heritage

o Modernization, globalization, and national identity

· Develop Curriculum
Design and regularly update course materials, lesson plans, reading lists, and multimedia content relevant to the UAE and Gulf region.

· Assess Student Performance
Prepare exams, essays, and projects; grade and provide constructive feedback.

· Use Culturally Relevant Pedagogy
Employ culturally sensitive teaching methods that respect local values and traditions.

. Research Responsibilities

  • Conduct Academic Research
  • Investigate topics such as:

o Emirati cultural identity

o Social change in the UAE

o Heritage preservation

o Nationalization and multiculturalism

o Youth culture and education

  • Publish Scholarly Work
  • Write articles, books, and conference papers related to Gulf/Emirati society.
  • Collaborate on Research Projects

Work with national and international scholars, cultural institutions, or think tanks.

3 Student Engagement and Support

  • Academic Advising
  • Help students understand the role of culture and society in their broader education.
  • Mentorship

Guide students pursuing careers in education, government, media, or cultural organizations.

  • Promote Intercultural Understanding

Help international students or faculty gain deeper insights into Emirati traditions and societal values.

4. Administrative and Institutional Duties

  • Committee Participation
  • Serve on academic committees related to general education, curriculum development, or cultural programming.
  • Cultural Events and Conferences

Organize or contribute to cultural seminars, national day celebrations, or academic symposia.

5. Community and Cultural Engagement

  • Public Outreach
  • Give talks or workshops in schools, cultural centres, or community events to promote understanding of Emirati heritage.
  • Work with Cultural Institutions

Collaborate with museums, heritage centers, or government bodies on cultural preservation and education initiatives.

1. Educational Background

  • Master’s Degree (minimum requirement) in one of the following fields:

Emirati/Gulf Studies, Middle Eastern Studies, Anthropology, Sociology History (with a focus on the UAE or the Arab world), Cultural Studies, Islamic Studies

  • PhD (preferred or required at research universities) in a related discipline

2. Teaching Experience

Proven experience teaching at the university or college level, especially courses related to:

Emirati society, history, and culture, Gulf/Middle Eastern studies, Comparative cultural studies

  • Familiarity with outcomes-based education (OBE) and student-centered learning approaches

3. Cultural Knowledge and Competency

  • Deep understanding of:
  • Emirati heritage, values, and social structures
  • UAE’s historical development, traditions, and national identity
  • The role of Islam in Emirati society
  • Contemporary issues (e.g., globalization, nationalization, multiculturalism)
  • Ideally, experience living or working in the UAE or GCC
