Miller Johnson, one of Michigan’s largest full-service law firms, is seeking an experienced full time Legal Administrative Assistant for our Labor & Employment practice group in our downtown Grand Rapids office.
Responsibilities:
- Coordinate administrative and practice group related tasks and projects to support attorneys.
- Manage complex calendars, schedule meetings, hearings, mediations, arbitrations, depositions, client calls, and internal deadlines.
- Track and manage litigation and agency deadlines, including state and federal court filings and administrative agency matters (e.g., EEOC, NLRB, MDCR).
- Prepare, edit, proofread, and assemble legal documents and correspondence, including engagement letters, client communications, pleadings, discovery, motions, briefs, position statements, and settlement agreements.
- Finalize court and agency filings by ensuring compliance with applicable rules and electronic filing requirements (e.g., ECF for federal court and relevant state/agency portals).
- Coordinate new client intake and matter openings, including conflict checks, engagement letters, and matter setup in firm systems.
- Support billing and timekeeping processes, including matter management, expense entries, and monthly billing coordination.
- Interact professionally with clients and other team members via phone, email, and in person.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Minimum of 2 years of legal administrative experience required
- Labor & Employment practice group experience, including docketing, and knowledge of court and agency processes and procedures required; familiarity with BEC preferred
- Advanced knowledge and proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) required
- Excellent grammar and communication skills required
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of client and firm information required
