Overview:
We are seeking a high-functioning, detail-oriented LEGAL ASSISTANT to join our downtown FORT WAYNE office. This is a FULL TIME, ON-SITE position operating 8:00am to 5:00pm, Monday through Friday. The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, a proactive attitude, and the ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

Knowledge of the Indiana Rules of Civil Procedure and basic substantive tort law is required, as this job encompasses calendaring and tracking many critical deadlines.

Our firm is comprised of 24 licensed attorneys practicing with support from a high-functioning team of paralegals & legal assistants across 3 offices located in Fort Wayne, South Bend, and Indianapolis.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide administrative support to assigned attorneys, including managing schedules, coordinating meetings, and maintaining calendars.
  • Draft, proofread, and edit legal documents, correspondence, and reports.
  • Conduct basic legal research and summarize findings.
  • File and organize legal documents electronically and ensure compliance with filing requirements.
  • Communicate with clients, courts, and opposing counsel as needed.
  • Maintain and update client records in case management software.
  • Monitor and meet deadlines for filings and other legal tasks

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in a legal administrative role is preferred; familiarity with insurance defense is a plus
  • Familiarity with Indiana's web-based legal platforms: Odyssey, IN Courts Portal, etc.
  • Reliable, dependable, punctual
  • Clear, effective communication skills, both written and verbalAbility to multi-task & prioritize tasks accordingly
  • Detail oriented, driven by accuracy
  • Software program experience: Adobe Acrobat, MS Office programs- Word, Excel, Outlook
  • Other computer skills: electronic file upload, organization & management, document retrieval, file sharing
  • Proficiency in Typing: 40+ wpm
