Job Summary
This is an entry-level position. We are seeking a motivated Legal Assistant to join our small law firm located in Northern Virginia. This is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate or early-career professional to gain hands-on legal experience. The Legal Assistant will provide direct support to attorneys by managing case files, preparing legal documents, coordinating filings and court logistics, and assisting with trial preparation.
The ideal candidate is organized, proactive, and eager to learn. This role requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining professionalism and confidentiality. Training and mentorship will be provided, offering meaningful exposure to litigation procedures and day-to-day legal operations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university required.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to draft clear, professional correspondence.
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel) and general comfort learning new software and case management systems.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise professionalism when handling sensitive information.
- Strong time-management skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Demonstrated reliability, professionalism, and a willingness to learn in a fast-paced legal setting.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Support attorneys in managing active case files by maintaining organized dockets, tracking court dates, and calendaring deadlines to ensure timely filings and case progression.
- Prepare, format, and file legal documents such as summons, civil warrants, writs, bills of particulars, answers, subpoenas, summary judgment motions, supporting affidavits, and final orders, with attorney review and guidance.
- Draft routine correspondence including demand letters, settlement agreements, violation notices, and client communications, ensuring accuracy and professionalism.
- Assist with contract review and administrative filings, including FOIA requests, service through the Secretary of the Commonwealth, and State Corporation Commission filings.
- Maintain client files and case documentation in both physical and electronic systems to ensure records are complete and up to date.
- Prepare basic billing entries, generate invoices, and assist with maintaining and reconciling accounting records.
- Assist in trial preparation by organizing exhibits, coordinating witness logistics, preparing interpreter requests, and compiling case materials.
- Coordinate with third-party vendors such as couriers, process servers, and court reporters; help schedule depositions and manage related logistics.
- Assemble and organize discovery requests and responses, ensuring all materials are properly formatted and timely submitted.

Pay: $30,000.00 - $32,000.00 per year
