Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Legal Assistant to join our legal team. The ideal candidate will possess a background in various areas of law, including but not limited to personal injury and criminal law. A legal background is not a requirement; can train someone with experience as an administrative assistant. Experience with legal filings in casenet.com is a plus. This role requires excellent organizational skills, the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, and proficiency in communication skills. As a Legal Assistant, you will provide essential support to the attorney and ensure the smooth operation of our law office. Your primary role will be to answer phone calls.

Responsibilities

  • Assist attorney with case preparation by doing intakes for personal injury cases and following up on treatment status while handing the case entirely from requesting police reports to getting liability status until negotiations need to take place by the attorney.
  • Manage case files and maintain organized records using document management systems.
  • Perform document review, proofreading, and legal drafting for various types of legal documents including contracts and pleadings.
  • Conduct interviews with clients to gather necessary information for cases.
  • Utilize legal research tools such as LexisNexis to support case development.
  • Provide executive administrative support including scheduling appointments, managing calendars, and handling correspondence.
  • Assist in project management tasks related to ongoing legal matters.
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information while demonstrating professionalism in all interactions.

Experience

  • Previous experience as a Legal Assistant or in a similar role is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with various areas of law including criminal and personal injury law is beneficial.
  • Strong writing skills with attention to detail for accurate documentation and transcription tasks.
  • Experience in clerical duties including data entry, filing, and maintaining organized office systems.
  • Excellent phone etiquette combined with strong interpersonal skills for effective communication with clients and colleagues.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour
